Reality TV Takeover

3rd January 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

The weekend is nearly upon us, and things are starting to feel a bit more normal. If you’re not back to work till Monday, then well done you! If like me and Simon you’ve been working random days of the week then you’ll know how we’re feeling today and understand why we’re looking forward to completely relaxing over the weekend.

I suppose while we’re both planning on doing absolutely nothing, separately, in our own homes obviously, we can both get ready for a full weekend of reality TV madness. If like me you love trash TV then be prepared for an overhaul of Z list celebrities taking part in diving, ice skating and just being filmed having tantrums and trying to be funny. Yes, Splash, Dancing on Ice and Celebrity Big Brother return to our screens this weekend, starting with Big Brother tonight. Plenty of “celebrities” have been rumoured to be entering the house. Among those, I’m pleased to say that Katie Price, Katie Hopkins and Lucy from Towie have all denied the rumours. On Saturday night we have the new series of Splash to contend with. I honestly don’t know how that was given a second series. Simon’s looking forward to seeing Una from The Saturdays make an appearance in her swimming costume, and I think there’ll be a lot of females excited to see Dan Osbourne from Towie rock up wearing a pair of Speedos!! Finally, Dancing on Ice returns on Sunday for the very last time. It’s the final series of the skating show which will see contestants from previous series’ take part. There are also rumours that Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley might be allowed to perform a routine on the ice. Personally I can’t wait to see Todd Carty back on the ice. If the last time he was on is anything to go by then this series will be the most entertaining yet!

On to a more serious discussion; Reports are out today that you could be charged a £10 fee if you go to A&E and they deem it an unnecessary visit! We wanted to know what your thoughts were, and it would seem everyone is in agreement that it’s ridiculous!!

Hope you all have a great weekend and those who are still off work, prepare yourselves for Monday!!

Happy New Year Everybody

2nd January 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I hope you all had a fab New Years Eve full of drunken fun and frolics. I vaguely remember getting home at 5.30am, waking up about 9am on the settee, fully dressed and still wearing my coat and scarf. Safe to say I felt a bit ropey yesterday, so spent all day in my jim jams slobbing about watching TV. The highlight of my day was by far the new episode of Sherlock, which was definitely worth the wait. I don’t know about you but I thought it was brilliant!! It was interesting to see that Benedict Cumberbatch’s actual parents had a cameo role as Sherlock’s mam and dad.

Seeing as it’s only the second day of the New Year, I hope you’re still sticking to your New Year’s resolutions. There are a lot of people signing up for ‘Dry January’. Basically people sponsor you to not drink alcohol for a whole month. It saves you money, helps you lose weight and is also good for your skin. I’d love to do something like that, but seeing as a lot of my friends have their birthdays in January and my sisters’ engagement party is in a couple of week’s time, there’s no chance of me not having an alcoholic beverage. I suppose I could try it in February, at least I’d only have 28 days to try and get through!

It felt strange coming into work today. Is it just me or has everyone else been mixed up about what day it is over Christmas and New Year. A lot of you got in touch with us today on Facebook and Twitter to kindly remind us that you’re off work and not back till next week, some of you are going away for a few days and others are just chilling out with family, (nice for some!).

After work I think I’m going to kick-start my healthy eating and do some food shopping. The only problem is that healthy food costs a fortune. I’ll only end up buying bags of mini cheddars and some microwavable meals!!

Bye Bye 2013

31st December 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Today’s show has been full of fun New Years Eve facts. An article out today lists the top 5 most bizarre NYE customs from around the world. From banging old bread on the walls in Ireland to throwing old furniture out the windows in South Africa, there are some crazy superstitions out there. We in little old England prefer singing Auld Lang Syne and waiting for a dark haired person to walk in the door........I suppose if you actually know the dark haired person, and it’s not a burglar, then he should bring you luck for the new year.

Another thing we all try to do is come up with at least one resolution for the New Year. I’m planning on losing a bit of weight in time for all the weddings and hen do’s I’ve got lined up. None of them are mine obviously. Perhaps I should make a resolution to have a boyfriend by the end of 2014 instead???

You all know how much I like a good list, well I found plenty today, recapping 2013 by showcasing the top 10 favourite singles, movies, and TV shows to name a few. David Beckham topped the list for most attractive male and I was pleased to see both Ryan Gosling and Benedict Cumberbatch in the top 10 as well, although I’m unsure as to why David Tennant is third????? No offence but I mean come on!! Best single went to Daft Punk with Get Lucky, while the most favourite film of 2013 went to The Hobbit, which I’m ashamed to say I still haven’t seen.

I’d like to finish off 2013 by listing some more useless fun facts; my gift to you for the New Year:

In Venice a mass kissing tradition takes place at the stroke of midnight in San Marco Square (germs galore)

The first place to see in the New Year is the Christmas Island which celebrates at 10am GMT

You can take a private jet from Sydney Oprah House to LA (if you’re loaded) and celebrate New Year twice in one night.

Whatever your own superstitions are and whatever you’re planning on doing to see in the New Year I hope you all have a good one and I’ll see you next year!!

New Years Eve Eve

30th December 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s the penultimate day of the year. I can’t believe 2013 is nearly over.

We wanted to know what your memorable moments of 2013 have been. Personally my most memorable moment has to be when I went to audition for the new Star Wars film in Manchester. I suppose it could also be classed as my most humiliating moment as well. If you hadn’t heard, I decided to go to an open audition and showcase my talents, hoping that in years to come I could tell the grandkids about the time I was a famous movie star and starred in one of the greatest films ever made. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out as well as expected. Basically I travelled all the way to Manchester at daft o’clock in the morning, queued for 3 hours and then got asked to kindly leave the queue when I realised I didn’t have any headshots..........At least I tried. Although it would seem you lot had more charming memorable moments than me; from weddings and births to Sunderland beating the scum, it was interesting to read what you enjoyed most.

If you didn’t know, I love reading. I got Ron Burgundy’s autobiography for Christmas and it’s quite possibly the best autobiography you’ll ever read. There’s at least one laugh out loud moment on every page. There’s a book out today full of delightful dotty facts that I’d really love to have; “1,339 QI Questions to make your jaw drop”. It’s full of true facts taken from the TV programme QI. I’ve managed to get a hold of some quotes and if like me you like to have a list of useless facts on hand for a conversation starter then get a hold of these; “A raw carrot is still alive when you eat it”, “An ostrich could run the London marathon in 45 minutes”, and “A tiger’s tongue is so rough that if it licked your hand it would draw blood”. If that doesn’t impress, then I don’t know what will.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for the last Breakfast show of 2013. It’s bound to be a New Year bonanza........well, hopefully!!

Christmas is over

27th December 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well Christmas is over. All that build up, stress and shopping for one day of the year. It was all worth it though; I personally had a lovely day full of presents, food, family time and Christmas TV specials.

Simon and I had a lovely little catch up finding out what each other got for Christmas. Simon was thrilled that he got his new kettle...........that’s right, he asked for a kettle, (showing his age I think). I was absolutely chuffed with my vintage Star Wars T-shirt and brand spanking new Hogwarts blanket. Yes I’m nearly 30 but everyone already knows how much of a complete nerd I am so you shouldn’t be surprised with what I got. We were also talking about the great shows that were on over Christmas. My personal favourite was the Downton Abbey Christmas special; it was brilliant, which is why I was surprised to see that it only came seventh in the Christmas day viewer ratings. Even though 10.2 million people tuned in to see Peter Capaldi make his Doctor Who debut, on average, only 8.3 million people wanted to watch the full episode. Mrs Brown’s Boys topped the list with 9.4 million viewers and for the first time in 10 years Eastenders failed to land the top soap spot, coming in second to Corrie.

With Christmas now over, discussions now turn to the New Year. Before we completely dismiss 2013, we wanted to remind you of all the memorable things that have happened this year. From news stories to sporting achievements, we’ve been playing some amazing audio encompassing everything you loved most. Other lists that came out today showed what peoples favourite single, film and TV programmes were. Another list showed the top 20 most bizarre boys and girl’s names of 2013. Some people need to have a serious word with themselves if they think it’s ‘normal’ to name your child Tiger, Victory, Tea, Ream, Puppy or Peppa to name just a few!!

I hope everyone is enjoying their 2 weeks off work and I hope you all had a memorable festive family fun filled Christmas
