Wembley Fever

28th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s been a full week of Wembley fever and there’s only 2 sleeps left! Considering I’ve never been a big football fan I’m really looking forward to Sunday. I love seeing how much support the people on Wearside have for their football club and I know it would be amazing for the city if the team brought home a trophy. Because of all the hype and excitement it’s actually making the thought of starting work at 6am on Sunday a bit more bearable. The photos you’ve sent in today have been brilliant. My favourite is the one we put on Facebook; it’s of 2 year old Lily Hudson, she’s stood outside the Newcastle United shop in the Metrocentre doing “The Borini” it’s amazing and her dad couldn’t be more proud.

We mentioned yesterday how people have been rallying to get 'D:Ream - Things can only get better' into the Top 40 for Sundays chart. When I downloaded it on Wednesday night it was number 39, but it’s now number 66!! C’mon people we need to get it back into the Top 40!! It would be so good to hear it on Sunday just after Sunderland win the League Cup final!

We’ve found out today that it’s actually Vito Mannone’s birthday on Sunday!! So instead of singing “ooooooo Vi to Man no ne”, you need to be singing “Hap py Birth day Man no ne” in the style of the ‘White Stripes - Seven Nation Army’.

Don’t forget to tune in on Sunday from 6am while you're getting ready for the big day. We want to hear from all of you whether you're on the Gus Bus or getting the train down to London. Even if you’re not going to Wembley and you can’t sleep from sheer excitement, get in touch................only 2 more sleeps!

Only 3 more sleeps

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you don’t already know, I’m a bit of a geek so I was pretty excited about a little article I found today which describes the home of the future. The company Qualcomm have showed off their vision of the ‘Connected Home’ at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The house they have in mind sounds amazing! You can lock the doors with your Smartphone, bedroom lights will flash if there’s an intruder in the house and there’s a teddy in the child’s bedroom that can be controlled to wake the child up and put them to bed remotely! After hearing last week that Dyson are planning to make robots that do housework, and Nike are hoping to release self tying laces like the ones in Back to the Future II, I’m pretty intrigued to see what else people can come up with.

I’ve seen a few things on social media recently about the folks on Wearside trying to get D:Ream ‘Things can only get better’ to number 1 this Sunday. I jumped on the back of that bandwagon and downloaded it on iTunes last night. It was actually at number 39 in the live download chart however this morning it’s now at number 43! C’mon people we need to get it back into the Top 40!! We need to be optimistic; it would be so good to hear it on Sunday just after Sunderland win the League Cup final!

We’re still trying to paint the town red and white and we’re loving all the photos you’ve sent in so far showing us how you’re preparing for Wembley. Keep sending them in, there’s not long left now.......only 3 more sleeps!

Phil Barksley, Ji Dog Wan and Jack Colbark??

26th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Yesterday we asked you to send in photos to show how you’re preparing for Wembley and for some strange reason we were inundated with photos of dogs in Sunderland shirts. We posted one on Facebook and asked you to name him; the one with the most impressive name would win a prize. Well it’s a topic that’s had everyone racking their brains, and you were still sending us suggestion this morning! Seeing as there were 3 suggestions that really made us chuckle we picked 3 winners; Beverley Teasdale came up with ‘Phil Barksley’, Maureen Johnstone decided on ‘Jack Colbark’ and Steven Harrison picked ‘Ji Dog Wan’. Congrats to you 3, you win a nice shiny new Sun FM ice scraper............seriously, that’s the prize. It’ll come in handy, just ignore the sun at the minute, you never know when the snows coming! Please keep sending all your Sunderland photos in, it’s brilliant to see just how much this cup final trip to Wembley means to everyone on Wearside, even if some of you are unable to make the trip down to London yourself.

We had a breaking showbiz story this morning; there were rumours that Oasis were going to be reforming because of a post they put on their Instagram page “26th Feb 9am” which was accompanied by a rapid flickering of photos showing Noel and Liam from the Oasis days. Not only did they manage to create a lot of hype due to their post but because of that their website crashed! After all the excitement it would seem that the announcement was to let us all know that they’ll be releasing a remastered version of ‘Definitely Maybe’ that celebrates its 20th birthday this year. Just a small anti climax there, thanks lads.

Don’t forget to keep sending us your photos so we can show everyone how you’re preparing for Wembley, even if you’re not going. Simon and I aren’t going; nope, some genius thought it would be a good idea to do a one off breakfast show at 6am on a Sunday morning!!!!!!!! Looks like I won’t be out on Saturday night!

Painting the town Red and White

25th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

After a nice long weekend off work it was back to the grindstone this morning and I was in for a nice surprise. To get us all in the mood for Wembley, we’ve been trying to paint the town red......and white of course. In the run up to this weekend, it would seem people are going to extreme lengths to show their support for Wearside, my favourite so far has to be Micky Watt in Farringdon who has covered his mams house with a huge red and white flag. It’s so big, it’s attached to scaffolding!

We’ve been asking you to send in photos of how you’re getting into the Wembley spirit and strangely enough the only photos we were sent this morning were ones of dogs wearing football shirts.

I liked a little article out today which suggests that there are only ever 6 types of tweet. I know how much Simon loves Twitter so I thought he’d appreciate this little bit of useless information. Computer Scientists at the University of Maryland spent time looking through thousands of tweets and decided that every tweet you send will fall into 1 of 6 categories, depending if the tweet is about celebrities, politics or just general conversations.

Did anyone see the new ‘3’ advert over the weekend? If you don’t remember, the last one they released was of a dancing pony with the hashtag #danceponydance and it was hilarious. The new one is of a little girl riding her bike with her little kitten sat in the basket and they’re singing “We built this city on Rock ‘n’ Roll” with the hashtag #singitkitty. Not only is it brilliant but if you go to the sing it kitty website you can upload a picture of yourself and actually make your own advert. It’s so funny, and of course we took advantage by making one each for me and Simon.

Don’t forget to keep sending us your photos and check out our twit pics now to see how the people of Wearside are celebrating on our road to Wembley.

Wembley Winner!!!

21st February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Our little Facebook topic this morning really hurt my brain. New research estimates that we spend a month every year listening to jargon and buzz words used by others at work. Phrases like “thinking outside the box” and “give 110% “are used so often and we don’t actually know what they mean. It’s so confusing, why can’t people speak properly and explain things a little bit more clearly!!! The most annoying phrase I heard this morning was “reach out for the low hanging fruit” C’mon, what on earth does that mean!!?!

Your chance to win those Wembley tickets has passed! All week we’ve been giving you the chance to win tickets and today we crowned our winner! All you had to do to be in with a chance of winning was to send in a photo of our Wembley car sticker in the back of your car with your car registration available. If you heard us read out your reg, phone us up, answer 10 simple football questions and the person with the most correct answers by 9 am today won the tickets. Monday’s contestant David has been in the lead all week with 8 correct answers. At the time he was actually annoyed with himself as he thought he could’ve done better and he wasn’t feeling confident. Today’s contestant Sally was David’s last hope; if she got more right than him then she’d be off to Wembley. It was so nerve-racking in the studio; god knows how David felt listening to Sally’s answers. It came down to the final question and Sally got it wrong!! David went mental and was over the moon. Commiserations to Sally and everyone else who tried to win the tickets this week, although I do have some good news which might brighten your day. A very good samaritan has donated a Wembley ticket along with an overnight stay at the Wembley Plaza Hotel to St Benedicts Hospice in Ryhope. To be in with a chance of winning that ticket you have to place a blind bid via email stating what you would pay for it and the highest bidder wins! It’s a simple as that and for a brilliant cause! Get involved and send your bid to fundraising@stbenedicts.co.uk

Enjoy your Friday everyone and I hope you all have a fab weekend!

Stomping around like fools!

20th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Simon and I had a brilliant time at the Sunderland Empire yesterday afternoon. We went to have a chat with the cast of Stomp, as they’re only performing at the Empire until Saturday and we didn’t want to miss out on our chance of having a go at making some stomp style sounds of our own. It was hilarious, especially when we were told “just try and join in”. There’s a great video on our YouTube page of Simon with his dustbin lids looking thoroughly pleased with himself for making a racket and me with my bin drum looking completely lost.Thank you to all the performers for our fun filled afternoon we had a fab time!

Our little Facebook topic this morning caused a bit of a debate between the sexes. Research out today claims that more than half of women would offer to pay for a meal on a first date, however 40% of them secretly hope that the man will pay. Personally, I think if a lad asks you out on a first date then he should pay, but if the relationship becomes serious and you’re going out as a couple then everything should be split equally, you shouldn’t expect them to pay forever, (unless of course they’re minted)! We wanted to know your opinions, and thankfully it would seem that a lot of you agree with me, and chivalry still exists.....sometimes.

Only one day left of our ‘Sticker Selfie’ competition and it would seem that Monday’s competitor is still in the lead with 8 correct answers!! All week we’ve been giving you the chance to win tickets to Wembley and there’s only 1 day left. We’ve been asking you to send in pics of our Wembley sticker in the back of your car, making sure that the registration is visible. If you hear your registration read out on air, phone us up, answer a few football questions and if you answer the most right, then you’re off to Wembley, it’s as simple as that! Today’s competitor Ian answered 7 correctly; so close Ian, yet so far away.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your last chance to bag those Wembley tickets!!!

Don't miss out on a chance to go to Wembley!

19th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Apart from vegetarians, who doesn’t love bacon!?! The sweet smell of smoky bacon and the perfect partnership it makes with brown sauce is magical. We know it’s bad for us if we eat too much, Simon even found an article out today that states just how bad bacon can be, but the article also explains why we salivate when we smell bacon. It’s a chemical reaction called the Maillard Reaction which occurs between an amino acid and a reducing sugar when heated, when combined it releases a smell which automatically makes us salivate. Mmmmmmm bacon......

It was day 3 of our ‘Sticker Selfie’ competition today and I’m sorry to say, today's winner has lost the chance to win those Wembley tickets!!!! All week we’ve been giving you the chance to win tickets to Wembley and all you need to do is send us a picture of the back of your car, making sure the registration and the Sun FM Wembley sticker are visible. If your registration is read out then you have to phone up and answer 10 simple SAFC questions, the person with the most correct answers by the end of Fridays show gets those spectacular Wembley tickets......however today’s winning reg owner didn’t even call!!! This now means that David from Monday’s show is still in the lead with 8 correct answers!

I’m really looking forward to this afternoon. Simon and I are going to the Empire to chat to the cast of Stomp and we’re actually allowed to have a go at making some stomp style sounds! I can’t wait, especially after seeing the show last night. I’ve got so many questions I want to ask them, and I already know which ‘instruments’ I want to play. Tune in tomorrow to find out how it went!

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Research out today has stated that a third of pregnant women crave something bizarre. We had to ask on Facebook what your cravings were, and I wish we hadn’t. Now I’ve never been pregnant so was unable to contribute, but I do remember my mam telling me she used to crave pineapples soaked in lemonade, which seems pretty normal compared to what some of you craved!! From oranges sprinkled with oxo cubes to shortbread biscuits dipped in garlic sauce, I’m going to say it, that’s absolutely mingin’!!

In much less disturbing news out today, Nike has announced that they’ll be hopefully be releasing ‘Back to the Future’ style self-tying Power Laces in 2015!!!! It would seem that what Steven Spielberg thought 2015 would look like in ‘Back to the Future 2’ could become reality!!! All we really need now is the hooverboard.....oh and of course the time travelling Delorean.

Day 2 of our new competition to win tickets to Wembley continued today. If you hadn’t heard we’re giving you the chance to win tickets to the League Cup final against Man City on 2nd March. Seeing as you can no longer get tickets from the club, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this chance. All you need to do is send us a ‘Sticker Selfie’ showing your car registration and the new Wembley sticker in the car window. It’s pretty simple, if you hear your car registration read out this week then phone us up and answer 10 simple questions on SAFC. The listener with the most correct answers on Friday wins the tickets!! Jean Ryan was today’s contestant and she didn’t do well at all, she only managed 4 out of 10, which means David from yesterdays show is still in the lead with 8 correct answers!

We’ve got so much going on tomorrow; don’t forget to tune in for another chance to win tickets to Wembley, and it’s also Brits Day, when we’ll be playing songs by Brit award winners and nominees throughout the day.

Who wants to go to Wembley????

17th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Monday is upon us yet again and research out today suggests that in the North East, workers struggle to deal with Monday mornings more than anywhere else in the UK. Apparently 56% of us woke up this morning feeling depressed at the thought of going to work. I must admit I was actually looking forward to work this morning; I couldn’t wait to tell you all about my Valentine’s Day mystery date!!! If you hadn’t heard, Simon has been dying to set me up on a date and Valentine’s Day seemed the perfect chance. ‘Date Danni’ kicked off on Friday and I was definitely not disappointed. Surprisingly Ricci from ‘Geordie Shore’ showed up at ‘Olivers Dental Studio’; he looked pretty dapper and smelt amazing. He was very much the perfect gentleman and took me to ‘D’Acqua’ in town; he even brought me some flowers. My dad wasn’t impressed when he found out I went on a date with a Geordie, and I doubt anything will materialise from our rendezvous, as he actually had another date planned on the night......with another girl!! EEEESSSHHHH

Simon was whisked away to Glasgow by his other half as a surprise, she spoils him something rotten!!! Although he did mention this morning he repaid her lavish gesture by taking her on a shopping trip.......to an outlet. Now I’m always one for a good bargain but when your partner spoils you with a trip away for the weekend and you want to repay her, you can do better than a trip to an outlet........and they say romance is dead.

We kicked off our new competition this morning and it’s definitely one you want to get involved in. Seeing as you can no longer get a League Cup Final ticket to Wembley from the club, you definitely don’t want to miss out on the chance of winning a pair of tickets with us! For one week only we’re giving a lucky listener the chance to win tickets to Wembley and it’s so simple to win. All you need to do is send us a ‘Sticker Selfie’ showing your car registration and the new Wembley sticker in the car window. If you hear you car registration read out after 8am this week then phone us up and answer 10 simple questions on SAFC. The listener with the most correct answers on Friday wins the tickets!! David Armstrong was today’s contestant and he answered an impressive 8 out of 10 questions correctly to kick off the competition!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow and don’t forget to send in your selfie, you’ll be gutted if you missed out on those tickets!

Love is in the air

14th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I’m sick of being single; I hope you are too.......

It’s finally here, the one day of the year when singletons around the world have love and happiness shoved in their faces. I suppose my Valentine’s Day isn’t going to be so lonely this year. Simon’s been looking forward to this day for as long as I’ve known him. It’s his chance to try and find me a date and I must admit he’s been trying his hardest. He’s sending me to Oliver’s Dental Studio today so they can sort my teeth out before I go on a dinner date with a mystery man this afternoon. It is a complete mystery, I only know that we’re going to D’acqua in town, I just don’t have a clue yet who I’m going with. Simon’s hoping that potential suitors flock to the dental studio to try and win a date with me!!! I’m praying that at least one person shows up or this could end up being the most embarrassing day of my life. Simon’s Valentine’s Day has started off with a bang, he’s been spoilt rotten. Not only has his missus booked them a nice romantic weekend away but she also popped in this morning and gave him some heart shaped Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and all he’s done is buy her some flowers!! Tut tut Mr Grundy!

On Facebook today we were asking you to complete the traditional Valentine’s Day poem “Roses are red.....” Joanne Stalker posted that the poem in her card off her husband read “Roses are red, belly button fluff is blue, I didn’t have enough for a heart, so here’s a smiley face for you” My favourite poem had to be from Lesley, “Roses are red, my name is Dave, this makes no sense, microwave” I suppose that’s just my sense of humour.

Today was also your last chance to win tickets to see ‘Stomp’ next week at the empire. All week Simon and I have been trying to play songs in the style of 'Stomp'. All we’ve actually done is make a load of racket with pots and pans; however you’ve still been able to guess correctly what song we’ve been playing! Today’s finale was New York New York by Frank Sinatra and I must admit it was our best effort by far.

I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day and don’t forget to tune in on Monday to find out exactly how my date went. You'll also have a chance to win tickets to.............the League Cup final at Wembley!! Dun Dun Duuuunnnnn.

We're in the mood for some dancing......and a bit of romancing

13th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

The weather is still a hot topic of conversation this morning. For some strange reason my moron neighbours decided to put their bins out last night, in this weather!!!! Safe to say my car was covered in their rubbish and all I could hear all night was the sound of the bins being blown around the street. Apparently the wind is only going to be getting worse. We’ve been told to prepare for a months worth of rain in 2 days due to 3 storms that are on their way. There’s a satellite photo showing what the storms look like and I must admit it looks pretty scary. Instead of naming them storm 1, 2 and 3, Simon wanted you to come up with cool names for them like the Americans do with hurricanes. A lot of you are quite creative; I must admit my favourite was Pardew, Ashley, and Shearer, the reason being they’re all wet and full of wind!

I’ve been waiting all week to play the song we played this morning as part of our 'Stomp' competition. If you didn’t know, we’ve been giving you the chance this week to win a family pack of tickets to see ‘Stomp’ at the Sunderland Empire. All you have to do is simply guess what song Simon and I are trying to play in the style of stomp. Today’s song was my all time favourite 'Dolly Parton, 9-5', and I must admit it was pretty good. God knows what tomorrows song will be, seeing as it the last day of the competition it will have to be a show stopper!

We were joined in the studio today by Maureen Nolan! She’s currently starring as Mrs Johnstone in 'Blood Brothers' at the Empire this week and I’m ashamed to say I still haven’t seen it. We found out that Maureen and a few of her singing sisters are actually in the Guinness Book of Records as they’ve all played the same character in Blood Brothers at some point. Don’t panic if you missed our little chat with Maureen, you can catch it on our Listen Again page.

It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow so be prepared for a jammed pack morning of love songs, romantic stories and no doubt Simon mocking me seeing as I’m single in Valentine’s Day.....although that could all change after dinner time????

Did anyone notice it had been snowing??

12th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It's a good thing we have Twitter and Facebook these days or else no one would have a clue what the weather was like! Loads of you sent in twit pics of the snow outside and good job we had our ‘Wednesday Weather Reporter’ on this morning as well. Little Kian from Havelock Park did a great job informing everyone that it was cold and snowing, direct, and straight to the point. I love the snow, in fact it’s my favourite type of weather, it’s just a shame it doesn’t look like it’s staying around for long!

I can’t believe we had another 'Stomp' winner this morning. If you didn’t know, we’re giving you the chance to win a family pack of tickets to see ‘Stomp’ at the Sunderland Empire. All you have to do is simply guess what song Simon and I are trying to play with our pan lids, wooden spoons and cheese graters. I’m actually shocked that anyone managed to understand what we were trying to play this morning. Simon’s rubbish at this game; there’s me playing my little heart out and Simon’s just making noise! Surprisingly Joanne called in and correctly guessed we were playing ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves!! She must be a genius.

Simon let slip that we’ll be giving you the chance to win Wembley tickets soon!! He didn’t go into much detail, just that you’ll have to be listening on Monday to find out how, and I’m sure it has something to do with our new Sun FM Wembley car sticker........

In 2 days time I will be going on a Valentine’s Day dinner date with a complete stranger................. I’m very nervous to say the least, and to top it off I’m full of cold. So if you’d like to go on a date with a red nosed sneezing snotter then you’re in luck. I hope Simon gives me more details about it tomorrow; I don’t like being left in the dark!! Speaking of tomorrow, we’ll be joined by Maureen Nolan who’s currently starring in 'Blood Brothers' at the Sunderland Empire this week. I wonder if she’ll be in the mood for a bit of dancing??? Perhaps even a bit of romancing??

We Are The Champions

11th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

News out today that Queens Greatest Hits album has become the first in the UK to sell six million copies, apparently 1 in 3 families actually own one. I must admit I do have it; it’s actually in my car now, however technically it’s not my album. I ‘borrowed’ it from a friend when I went on a road trip to Scarborough so me and my mates could re-enact the Waynes World ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ montage because I’m just so cool, and I never gave the cd back. Of course we had to ask which queen track was your favourite. Simon’s was obviously going to be something with an innuendo of some sort included, so he chose ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’........mine was of course ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Stephen, ever so much the optimist decided on ‘Who wants to live forever’. The general consensus on Facebook was ‘It’s a kind of magic’ and ‘We will rock you’.

Day 2 of our Stomp competition this morning. If you didn’t know, for one week only we’re giving you the chance to win a family pack of tickets to see ‘Stomp’ which comes to the Sunderland Empire next week. Not only will you get to see the show but you’ll also get the chance to meet the cast and have a go at making some stomp sounds of your own. All you have to do to win the tickets is simply guess what song Simon and I are trying to play with our pan lids, wooden spoons and cheese graters. It sounds pretty simple, however if you’ve ever had the chance of hearing cats fighting in an alleyway behind industrial bins then that’s pretty much what me and Simon sound like. Surprisingly though, Lisa from Castletown actually guessed correctly and knew we were trying to play ‘Come on Eileen’!!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your next chance to win tickets to see Stomp and also find out if Simon’s planning on divulging any more information about ‘Date Danni’........There’s only 3 days to go and I don’t have a clue what’s being planned for me!!!

Stomp at the Sunderland Empire

10th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Starting on today’s show and for one week only, we’re giving you the chance to win a family pack of tickets to see ‘Stomp’ which comes to the Sunderland Empire next week. Not only will you get to see the show but you’ll also get the chance to meet the cast and have a go at making some stomp sounds of your own. To be in with a chance of winning the tickets all you have to do is guess what song Simon and I are trying to play with a variety of household items. Today I brought into work; a cheese grater, pan lids and wooden spoons. Unbelievably Donna called in and correctly guessed that we were trying to play ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder. How she managed to guess that is a miracle, to me it just sounded like noise!!

Now if you didn’t know, Simon can be a bit of a fibber at times and I never know if he’s telling the truth or pulling my leg. He once told me he was in ‘Billy Elliot’ and that he also starred alongside Faye Tozer in a production of ‘Loveshack’ at the Sunderland Empire. Today he announced that we’ll actually have our own chance to star in 'Stomp' next week. I always think he’s going to think I’m gullible if I believe him and I don’t want to get my hopes up!! Fingers crossed he’s telling the truth this time.

Finally a little story out today which I’m not sure is exciting or unnerving? The hoover company Dyson are investing in a project to create robots who will clean, put the rubbish out, guard your property from intruders and warn you if a fire breaks out. Now I’m excited because I could have my very own R2-D2 type robot whizzing around the house, but I’m also unnerved. If like me you’ve seen films such as ‘Terminator’ and ‘I, Robot’ where technology gets out of hand and robots start having feelings and taking over the world then you’d be slightly unnerved too!!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your next chance to win tickets to see Stomp and also find out if Simon’s planning on divulging any more information about ‘Date Danni’........I’d appreciate knowing what’s been planned for me on Valentine’s day.

Roll on the weekend!

7th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If like me you're planning on spending the whole weekend catching up on sleep then you'll be looking forward to it just as much as I am.

A massive survey out today lists the top reasons behind office rows. From colleagues taking long lunch breaks to those who steal your food from the fridge, the list is endless. We wanted to know on Facebook and Twitter what exactly annoys you at work? Simon hates it when people pinch his butter, and people pinching my milk is a big bug bear of mine. We even have a sign on the fridge that states “This is a communal fridge; it does not contain communal food”. Even when I write my name in black felt tip all over my milk it still somehow manages to disappear! A lot of you on Facebook agreed that laziness was the most annoying thing in your office. Smelly, miserable and rude colleagues were another and John Buxton commented that the most annoying thing for him at work was the 8 Hour wait to go home.

I’m sad to say that the men came out victorious in our ‘Battle of the Sexes’ competition. All this week we’ve been giving you the chance to win a party package for Laser Quest opening in Sunderland, all you had to do was answer 5 simple questions every morning. The men were asked 5 female orientated questions and the women were asked 5 male orientated questions. The final score was Men 3 : Women 2. You should be ashamed of yourselves ladies and so should the individual responsible for setting the questions!

Finally, don’t forget to tune in next week. We’ll be giving you the chance to win tickets to see Stomp at the Empire; all you’ll have to do is guess what song Simon and I are trying to sound out using pots and pans!!! Also Simon will be letting you know how you can win a date with me on Valentine’s Day.......bet you can’t wait. To be honest I haven’t got a clue what’s going on so it would be nice to find out, as long as wine is included at some point I’ll be fine.

Number 1 on Wearside

6th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

We were joined this morning by Holly Jenkins from Rainbow Trust, and our bookie from Ladbrokes Colin. Colin was here on official business to inform us all just exactly how much money had been raised for Rainbow Trust following Simon’s betting last year. Colin was supposed to be handing over a big fancy fat cheque, like the ones you see on game shows in the 80’s, however he forgot it but brought the cash instead, which amounted to, (drum roll please).......£1,336!!!! Holly was over the moon, and Colin suggested that he could sort out some odds so we could put a bet on me!!!! To be more specific he thinks we could bet on me marrying the man I end up going on a date with when Simon launches ‘Win a date with Danni’. Thanks Colin, thanks a lot.

Sunderland’s secret sound still hasn’t been won and the ever increasing prize pot is currently at £425!! Adorable 7yr old Jasmine called in today to have a guess. I was hoping she’d get it right so she’d buy a pony and make her mam regret ever letting her call in! Unfortunately she guessed wrong.

Even though we’ve still got a day left of our ‘Battle of the Sexes’ competition, it would seem the lads have already won! I was hoping that Paula would walk away victorious this morning which would have put the score at 2:2; unfortunately she let us down and the boys won again!!! Damn it Paula! Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your last chance to win a party package for the new Laser Quest opening in Sunderland.

Finally, it’s official.........Once again we’ve been voted the number 1 station on Wearside!!!!! Simon Grundy in the morning is in fact the most listened to breakfast show, (I’m sure the figures started rising when I joined???) We want to say a huge THANK YOU for listening and tune in again tomorrow!

A swarm of bees surrounded my car.......

5th February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you hadn’t noticed, I wasn’t in yesterday, I had a bad case of the you know whats.........Simon of course felt it necessary to bring it up, especially considering he found research out today which claimed that the first week in February is the most popular week for people to phone in sick more than any other time of the year, so of course he thought I was fibbing. I didn’t want to tell him I was just in fact wanting a lie-in so I could catch up on ‘The Jump’ from the last 2 weeks seeing as it’s had such amazing reviews! Recruitment agency ‘Career Builder’ posted a list of the worst / most unbelievable excuses people had used when not being able to make it into work. Have a pen and paper at the ready to make a note of these corkers that you might have to actually use in the future when you are unable to think of anything else:

“I don’t know what to wear!!”

“My false teeth fell out the window”

“My glass eye fell out and I don’t know where it’s gone?”

My favourite has to be: “A swarm of bees surrounded my car and I was unable to get out” Absolutely hilarious!

On Facebook and Twitter this morning we wanted to know of any films you had seen which made you re-think aspects of your life?? Sounds odd, but apparently 2 out of 5 people have seen a film which has then inspired them to change their lives. Films such as ‘Eat Pray Love’ and ‘The Bucket List’ have been voted the most inspiring; however a few of you thought your lives were more like ‘Groundhog Day’!

And finally, we continued with our brand new competition ‘Battle of the Sexes’. The aim of the game is to have a male and female caller compete against each other to win a party package for the new Laser Quest that’s opened in Sunderland. Simon has to ask the female caller 5 male orientated questions and I have to ask the male 5 female orientated questions. So far the lads have been winning but thankfully the girls won today!! Well Done Eloise, you’ve redeemed us women for now. The score currently stands at Men:2 – Women:1.

3 - Is the Magic Number

3rd February 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Mr Grundy made his return this morning to show off his sun tan; I must admit he did have an impressive tan, although I think he just secretly bathed in St. Tropez fake bake before coming in today. Of course he was absolutely over the moon to be back at work, he even brought me and Stephen a little holiday gift which was very thoughtful; Stephen got a little pen with a heart on, and I got a cigar. Now, either there was a mix up with the gifts or Simon just really really loves Stephen.

Did you know the last time Sunderland won 3 derby games in a row was in 1923!!!

Every Mackem in the world must have been celebrating over the weekend after that amazing derby day win. Thankfully no horses were harmed after Newcastle’s defeat but I’ve heard a rumour that because they lost the derby for the third time in a row, they’ve decided to rename ‘St. James’ Park’ to the ‘O3’...............????? Honestly the person who made up that joke so quickly must be a genius!

We’ve been in such a good mood that we didn’t want the party celebrations to end so we’ve been having a derby party all morning. We were asking on Facebook and Twitter what celebration song you wanted us to play. Some of the requests were brilliant, “Que Sera Sera”, “Don’t stop me now”, and of course, “3 is the magic number”.

And finally, today we started our brand new competition 'Battle of the Sexes'. The aim of the game is to have a male and female caller compete against each other to win a party package for the new Laser Quest that’s opening in Sunderland. Simon has to ask the female caller 5 male orientated questions and I have to ask the male 5 female orientated questions. Today we had Michelle V Justin, and Justin won!!!!!! Damn it. That makes it 1:0 to the boys; C’mon ladies we have to redeem ourselves tomorrow.
