Mr Busy & Little Miss Fun

25th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Simon got a bit emotional last night when he found his daughter’s collection of Mr Men books from when she was little. It made us think what Mr Men and Little Miss Characters Simon and I would be. I was tempted to give Simon the title of Mr Grumble or Mr Miserable but then he would’ve picked a mean one for me so instead I chose Mr Busy, which is pretty accurate; he’s constantly busy and has always got loads of work to do. Simon chose Little Miss Fun for me, probably because Little Miss Lazy wasn’t available. I am pretty fun to be around and I like to keep people entertained. Loads of you got in touch to tell us which character you would be, and of course the jokers out there got in touch as well.....strangely enough there are no characters called Mr Transvestite or Mr Recovering Alcoholic.

Day 2 of our Take That Winning Week where each day this week we’re giving you the chance to win Take That’s new album before it goes on sale. All you have to do is answer 3 Take That questions correctly out of 5 and the CD is yours. You then automatically get put into the draw on Friday to win tickets to see the lads when they come to the North East next year. Today’s winner was Michelle from Washington and she was over the moon.

And finally, I heard some AMAZING news last night.......................the new 'Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens' trailer is going to be released this Friday!! Excitement overload!!!

TAKE THAT WERE ON THE SHOW!!

24th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Today was Day 1 of our Take That Winning Week and not only were we giving you the chance to win Take That’s new album, but Simon and I actually interviewed Gary, Mark and Howard!!! Quite possibly the highlight of my career so far. At one point I actually thought “Oh my god, I’m talking to Gary Barlow, that’s actually Gary Barlow, and he said my name!” They were absolutely lovely and it’s odd that there are only 3 of them now, but they still sound as strong as ever. If you missed our little chat, then don’t panic, you can hear it on our Listen Again page, and I’m going to see if Simon can actually record it on a CD for me so I can keep it forever as evidence that I spoke to Gary, Mark and Howard.

As part of our Take That winning week, each day we’re giving you the chance to win Take That’s new album before it goes on sale. All you have to do is answer 3 Take That questions correctly out of 5 and the CD is yours. You then automatically get put into the draw on Friday to win tickets to see the lads when they come to the North East next year. Congratulations to our first winner of the week, Annie Brown and good luck for that draw on Friday.

And finally, if like me you haven’t started Christmas shopping because you haven’t got a clue what to buy people then fear not. I’ve found a new Secret Scan-ta app that allows you to type in the twitter handle of your friends and family and it automatically provides options for what presents you should buy. I typed in Simon’s name and it suggested I should buy him a Despicable Me 2 Fart Gun and a dressing gown which I know he’ll be over the moon with!! The app of course only works if your friends are on Twitter, if they’re not, then it’s back to the drawing board.

Takeover Day

21st November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Today is the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day where over a million children across the country spend the day in a working environment, so if you tuned in and thought you were listening to The Ben and Leah Show, then you were!! Simon and I were joined by 10 year olds Ben Foster from Southwick Primary and Leah Rathbone from Hudson Road Primary and they were absolutely brilliant! They were reading out news stories, showbiz stories, back announcing songs and getting involved in all the competitions. They did an amazing job and we thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Thank you Ben and Leah, we know who'll be filling in for us next time Simon and I fancy a day off!

Today was your last chance to win book vouchers to celebrate the Northern Children’s Book Festival coming to Sunderland tomorrow. All week I’ve been reading out extracts of classic children’s books and seeing as we were joined by Ben and Leah this morning, Ben did a fantastic job of reading an extract from my favourite book ‘Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone’.

If you get a chance, pop down to Peterlee tonight for the Castledene Christmas Light Switch On. Simon and I will be joined by singers, dancers, and Kerrianne Covell from the X Factor. Seeing as it’s Takeover Day, we’re giving the important task of turning on the lights to 3 lucky Peterlee school kids who are going to be treated like VIPs!

Finally, don’t forget to tune in on Monday when we’ll be joined by TAKE THAT!!!!!! I can't wait.

Who's got the Genfactor?

20th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I was at the final of the Genfactor last night at the Sunderland Empire and was overwhelmed with the talent of Wearside’s kids. Ranging from dancers and singers to rock bands, the performances were very impressive. The judges unanimously voted for 15 year old Arran Hough as the winner – a Sandhill View School pupil, Arran showcased some amazing dancing abilities and blew the crowd away. Congratulations to all the finalists, you should be very proud of yourselves, and Well Done Arran, no doubt we’ll see you performing on Broadway in a few years time.

Day 4 of ‘Story time with Simon and Danni’ and today’s classic children’s book was Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’. Tomorrow is your last chance to win book vouchers to celebrate the Northern Children’s Book Festival coming to Sunderland, just by correctly guessing what book I'm reading, and I’ve saved the best till last!

Also tomorrow Simon and I will be joined by Little Simon and Danni. We’re going to be overrun with children all day at Sun FM Towers and I can’t wait! They’ll even be reading the showbiz news and doing the weather! I’m a big kid deep down and tomorrow I’ll have an excuse to mess about and hopefully spend all day colouring in and playing Hide and Seek.

You are rude to my cat and that makes me feel uncomfortable!

19th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I found a funny story today from Australia that’s gone viral. A 30 year old man has broken up with his girlfriend after 7 weeks via text message. Now it’s not your standard “I don’t think we should be together anymore” kind of break up text, he’s actually listed 6 reasons as to why they can’t be together. My favourite, and quite possibly the funniest reason is “You are rude to my cat and that makes me feel uncomfortable.” Did I mention he’s 30 years old!!! It got us thinking about good break up stories. I’ve been involved in 2 break ups – one was on holiday, which wasn’t very nice being stuck in a foreign country with someone after breaking up on the first day, and then there’s the story of when my ex broke up with me in a restaurant.......he didn’t even let me finish my meal before breaking the news!! Simon had a funny story about a girl he knew who broke up with her boyfriend over a packet of Smash. Keep sending us your break up stories on Facebook and Twitter, and see if you can beat the cat man.

Breaking showbiz news this morning and Gemma Collins has left the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ jungle. What I don’t understand is, she must have seen the programme before and expected not to be fed gourmet meals every day. It’s not like the producers were actually going to let her starve to death on national TV so not to sound mean, but she could’ve tried a little harder.

Also in the showbiz news, you know you’ve made it big when you appear on 'Sesame Street'..........Please have a look on YouTube to see the moment One Direction sing a song about the letter U. Cringe is an understatement.

I'm not lazy!

18th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

According to Simon, I’m lazy! He only thinks that because I buy things like pre packed grated cheese, and jars of peanut butter already mixed with jam. It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s just easier. Christie Fisher on Facebook agreed with me that it’s easier to buy bags of grated cheese because it’s dangerous to use a grater........it’s also a pain to try and wash one! Just so you know, yes I buy bags of pre cut lettuce, pre sliced mushrooms, and pre chopped onions, but I’m not lazy, I’m just saving myself some time. One thing that really bugs some people is when they see others buying bags of ice cubes, (I do that too). But, I still don't think you can class it as lazy. I’d be lazy if I lay in bed all afternoon and only woke up to eat my tea..............oh wait, that’s exactly what I do. Oops.

Day 2 our new competition “Story time with Simon and Danni” and today’s book was Roald Dahl’s classic ‘James and the Giant Peach’. If you missed it, just tune in tomorrow and listen to me reading out an extract of a well known children’s’ book. If you guess it correctly you can win book vouchers to spend at Waterstones to celebrate the Northern Children’s Book Festival coming to Sunderland. I love reading and I love reading stories to my niece and nephew. It’s a shame that not many children read books anymore, so try and win these vouchers and buy the kids something to read this Christmas!

Once upon a time.....

17th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

A Band Aid 30 photograph has been released, although Rita Ora and Sam Smith aren't on it. Out of the celebrities involved, Simon and I managed to name 21 of them which isn’t too bad when you see who’s actually on the photo. Head to our Facebook and Twitter profiles to see the photo of who’s who, and see how many you can guess correctly. Don’t cheat, because we’ve put the list of answers on there as well, and keep listening as we'll be playing the new version of "Do they know it's Christmas?" throughout the day.

We started our new competition this morning “Story time with Simon and Danni” – basically I read out an extract of a well known children’s’ book and you can win Waterstones vouchers just by correctly guessing what book I’m reading. This morning was The Gruffalo, and I guarantee that not only were the kids reading along with me, but a few adults will have been as well.

Please say you watched “I’m a Celebrity.....Get Me Out of Here” last night. I guarantee that TOWIES Gemma Collins will be this year’s Helen Flanagan and will be voted by the public to do every single bush tucker trial. She was balling her eyes out just sitting in the helicopter, in her normal clothes, not covered in bugs. I don’t normally watch it, but I think I’m going to have to tune in just to see how she gets on.

Lola Saunders popped in for a chat!

14th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Last night Simon and I were at the old Crowtree site in the city centre to help switch on the Christmas lights and I can’t believe how many people showed up! The Mayor of Sunderland, Faye Tozer and Panto star Andrew Agnew flicked the switch to kick off Christmas in Sunderland. It was a brilliant night, with some fabulous entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display. Can you believe we only have 41 sleeps left till Christmas Day! Oh and in case you haven't noticed......we're on the front page of the Echo!

Local lass Lola Saunders joined us today for a chat about all things X Factor and also declared that she is in fact a Sunderland fan! Something we’ve been wanting cleared up for a while. If you missed our interview then you can catch it on our Listen Again page or even head over to YouTube and watch the video.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend – if you’re up early enough tomorrow you can catch Simon and I for 2 hours! Yes that’s right, 2 hours on a Saturday morning, 6 – 8am. If you’d rather have a lie in then tune in on Monday when we’ll be giving you the chance to win vouchers for Waterstones as part of ‘Story time with Simon and Danni'.

FYI ladies........the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' trailer is out, and you won't be disappointed!

The one day I wish I'd phoned in sick!!

13th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Quite possibly the most HUMILIATING day of my life. If by any chance you tuned in this morning and wondered why we were playing Barry White then don’t be alarmed, Simon found out that I bumped into an old college friend on Saturday night and that we’ve been texting each other, and now according to Simon, he’s my boyfriend!! Just setting the record straight, he’s not my boyfriend, he’s just a friend who’s a boy but it didn’t matter how many times I told him that, he’s adamant that he wants to meet him as he’ll need his sign of approval. I wasn’t giving out much information on the man in question, but all that does is allow Simon to make things up! Apologies to "You Know Who" who was listening in the car on his way to work..........believe me I was just as embarrassed as you!

We noticed that Foo Fighters have announced that they’ll be kicking off the UK leg of their 2015 tour here in Sunderland at the Stadium of Light! I’m not a huge fan, but I know they’ll be amazing. It got us thinking, who would you love to see perform in this beautiful city? From The Killers to Led Zeppelin you seem to have good taste in music, although I think Graeme Wharton will be a little upset to hear that Chico will definitely not be performing at the SOL.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow when we’ll be talking to Lola Saunders from X Factor! Hopefully she’ll be able to set the record straight on whether she’s a Geordie or a Mackem!?

I'm a Celebrity official line up

12th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Yesterday afternoon I managed to cross another thing off my bucket list as I actually had the privilege of dancing on the stage at the Sunderland Empire Theatre with members of Riverdance. Simon was there of course and it was hilarious watching him trying to dance! I dusted off my tap shoes for the occasion and even though I was ridiculously excited, my dance moves were not up to expectations and unfortunately I wasn’t asked to perform in last night’s show. Keep an eye out for when we put the video up on YouTube, yes it was filmed and it will need to be edited quite a lot!

If you’re excited for ‘I’m a Celebrity......Get Me Out of Here’ returning to our screens at the weekend then you’ll be pleased to know that the full line up of this year’s “celebrities” have been announced. Loads of you agreed that the line up this year is probably one of the worst and in fact from the names of those entering the jungle, no one knew more than 5 of them. Just so you know, they include, ‘Allo Allo actress Vicki Michelle, Corrie star Craig Charles and a singer / model called Nadia Forde......yeah we didn’t know who she was either!

And finally, we mentioned last week that we’d be having a Take That Winning Week soon, but this morning Simon announced that we’ll actually be interviewing Gary, Mark and Howard very soon!!!! I’m so excited.

Armistice Day

11th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I managed to cross something off my Bucket List last night after seeing Riverdance Live at the Empire. I’ve been dreaming of seeing it since I was 7 years old and it was everything I ever dreamed of. I’m not ashamed to admit it, but yes I cried. What’s even more exciting is that Simon and I are taking part in an actual Riverdance Masterclass!!!!!!!! I’ve dusted off my tap shoes and I’m ready......I wouldn’t be surprised if I get asked to perform in the show tonight....(fingers crossed). A lot of you got in touch to let us know what things are on your bucket list that you’d like to complete. My favourite was from Lee on Facebook who really wants to see Andrea Bocelli in Tuscany – dream big Lee!

Don’t forget that most importantly, today is a day we remember the heroes of war. Those who fought and lost their lives so we could live in the country we live in today. Please pay your respects, whether it’s wearing a poppy or staying silent for 2 minutes at 11am. Tune in at 10am to hear our very own hour long special broadcast to commemorate Armistice Day.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.........”

No tengo un tenedor

10th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

New week, new hair!! That’s right, I decided to change my hairstyle in time for the festive period and I love it! I asked my hairdresser to keep what she cut off so I could make Simon a wig. I’ve got the hair at home and because he’s lacking in the hair department I thought he might need a little toupee to keep his head warm seeing as it’s getting chilly outside. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Simon was talking about how his daughter is off to Derwent Hill today and he’s a nervous wreck. She’s going to absolutely love it. I remember going twice when I was at school, once in Primary school and then again when I was at Secondary school, which was odd because we went as part of our Spanish class......I don't know how it was supposed to help us with Spanish. The only thing I remember from the whole trip was “No tengo un tenedor” which in English means “I don’t have a fork”.

It’s back for one week only; ‘What’s in Danni’s mouth?’ the hilarious yet oddly strange game where I put something in my mouth and you have to try and guess what it is. It seems a bit of a let down how a lot of you phone in to guess, and all you can win is what’s actually been in my mouth! Stephanie was today’s lucky winner and she’s looking forward to receiving her puncture repair kit in the post!!

There's no business like show business

7th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s been a busy show this morning.

It was week 2 of Free Fuel Friday, your chance to bag yourself a free tank of petrol. All you have to do is listen out for clues as to the whereabouts of Sunny the Seagull and our trusty Sun FM Street Team. You can’t miss them actually seeing as they’re driving around in a blue Mini with Sun FM on the side! Today the team were at the Shell garage in Grindon and the password was “There’s no business like show business.....” Not only did you have to sing the password but you also had to include jazz hands! Congratulations goes to Michael from Ford Estate who has now lost some of his manliness after singing on air!

Today was your last chance to win tickets to see the Christmas Panto at the Empire this year. I must admit, I’ve impressed myself with my whistling abilities this week. From 'Walk like an Egyptian' to 'Sitting on the dock of the bay' I've been whistling while I worked and today's song was Maroon 5 'Moves like Jagger'.

Tune in next week when the much anticipated ‘What’s in Danni’s mouth?’ returns after a 1 week break. What on earth can I stuff in my mouth this time?

Monty the Penguin

6th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s officially Christmas.....well not really, but the John Lewis Christmas Advert has finally been released! If you remember last year’s tale of the Bear and the Hare then you’ll be very pleased with this year’s Monty the Penguin. It follows the story of Sam a little boy whose friend is a Penguin who wants to fall in love. Tom Odell has recorded a cover of ‘Real love’ by John Lennon and I won’t spoil the ending, but Simon did get teary eyed. It’s going to be having its official first play on TV during Gogglebox tomorrow night, but if you can’t wait that long then head to our Facebook and Twitter pages where we’ve posted the video.

Speaking of adverts, all morning we’ve been asking you what your favourite and most memorable adverts are. I can remember a Maltesers advert from when I was little where it’s set in a 50’s diner and a man and woman dance to ‘Dream Lover’ by Bobby Darin. I managed to find it online and it was released in 1989.....I was only 2, yet I still remember it! Some funny ones people remembered were the Aldi advert with the old lady who doesn’t like tea but likes to drink gin and of course all the Irn Bru adverts, especially where everyone gets called Fanny.

Tune in tomorrow for Free Fuel Friday and also your last chance to win tickets to see this year’s Christmas Panto at the Empire. I will be whistling my final song of the week, and I think this will be a tough one?!

Bonfire Night

5th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

“Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason, why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot”

I gave a little history lesson today on the reason why we celebrate 5th November and if you didn’t know, it’s because after the failed assassination attempt on King James I in 1605, people lit bonfires around London in celebration. Later, the introduction of the ‘Observance of 5th November Act’ enforced an annual public holiday of thanksgiving for the plots failure.

The name Guy Fawkes is associated with Bonfire Night as it was he who was found guarding the barrels of gunpowder, but did you know that there were in fact 13 men involved in the plot led by Robert Catesby. I knew my history degree would come in useful one day.

Upsetting showbiz news this morning..............we’ve seen reports that Benedict Cumberbatch has APPARENTLY proposed to his girlfriend Sophie Hunter as it LOOKS LIKE it’s been announced in The Times newspaper. I’m praying that it’s a hoax and I’ve even tweeted The Times and asked them to confirm it!!! Fingers crossed I’m still in with a chance.

Simon and I will be at the Ashbrooke Fireworks display tonight doing the all important countdown. We’ll hopefully see you there but if not, whatever you're doing tonight please be safe!

To infinity.....and beyond!

4th November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Apparently Buzz Lightyear’s famous catchphrase from ‘Toy Story’ has been voted the number one best film quote ever! A list of the top 10 best film quotes as voted for by Radio Times readers was released today and it includes “You’re gonnna need a bigger boat” from Jaws and also “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn”. I must admit those I’ve mentioned deserve to be on the list but then they’ve got ones like “Nobody’s perfect” from Some like it hot and they’ve missed off some amazing ones!! They haven’t even got “May the force be with you” or even “Life is like a box of chocolates”. Loads of you got in touch to tell us your favourite lines and we jonyed trying to guess what filnms they were from.

Also on the show was our new competition “Whistle while you work” a fun new game where I have to whistle a song and all you have to do is guess what song it is and you win a pair of tickets for this year’s Christmas Panto ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. I must admit, I’m pretty pleased with my whistling abilities and today’s tune was “Magic Moments”, that memorable Perry Como tune from the Quality Street advert! Tomorrow’s is going to be a long one so excuse me now if I get out of breath.

Just a little update for those of you who have been waiting to recieve your Breakfast Show mugs......it would seem that they have been stopped at customs!! I honestly thought Simon was joking when he told me, but honestly that's where they are!!!

Men doing daily housework.........really?

3rd November 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I hope you all had a brilliant Halloween I certainly did! My sister and I went out dressed as the 2 little girls from The Shining and not wanting to blow my own trumpet but we looked pretty good. Quote of the year goes to my mam who was so shocked when she saw us she said “Eeeee you look like sisters.........” (yes mam, we’ve been sisters for 24 years).

I also had a fabulous day in Preston celebrating the wedding of a very close friend who I’ve known since school. They’re already prepared for married life and with research out today that men now spend 2 hours every day helping with household chores I know the new Mrs Wilby will have plenty of spare time on her hands. I don’t know of any man that does 2 hours of housework a day, but it would seem on Facebook that I’m mistaken. Quite a few of you posted to say that all housework is split 50/50 between you and your husband which is very impressive. To be honest, my dad doesn’t even know where the iron is, let alone knows how to use it!!

If you’ve been following X Factor and supporting local talent, then you like us will be gutted to know that Lola Saunders had the fewest public votes on last night’s show and was sent home. To be honest its already been proven with the likes of Olly Murs and One Direction that you don’t need to win the x factor to have a good singing career, so Good Luck Lola, you’ll do great!

Tune in again tomorrow for round 2 of “Whistle while you work”, a new competition giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to this year’s Christmas Panto. All you have to do is tell us what song I’m whistling. I’m a really good whistler, and today’s song was “Walk like an Egyptian”....whistled to perfection.
