What did you do for 'Work Experience'?

30th May 2014

Morgan in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It was Morgan’s final show this morning and as expected we had a blast. He was talking about how his son is deciding where to go for ‘Work Experience’ and John mentioned how his first work experience was spent in a Butchers, where they locked him in the fridge and made him wipe down the benches covered in blood!! Loads of you got in touch to tell us what you did for work experience; on Twitter Sarah Gill spent a week as a Magician’s Assistant and Caroline Weight told us of the time she spent at a vets where her first task was to groom a dead dog so the owner could bury it at home!! I loved my work experience at M&S but I despised my first job; it was in a fish shop and I only lasted a day it was disgusting! We all know that wrapping up a fish lot is an art but I was left to my own devices and at one point needed sellotape to stop it from falling apart!

Congratulations to Lesley Kime who was the highest bidder yesterday and now gets to take home her very own cardboard cut out of Harry Styles! To continue the One Direction frenzy we gave you the opportunity to have Harry Styles in your living room, or bedroom whichever you preferred. All you had to do was bid on our life size cut out with all money raised going to the NSPCC Sunderland. Thanks Lesley, you’ve added a nice £41 into our charity tin.

We’ve still got a shed load of Sun FM mugs and we’ve finally decided on how to give them away, so tune in on Monday to find out how to win one. Oh and don’t forget, Grundy will be back from his jollies!!! I wonder what he’s bought me for a Euro?

Who wants Harry Styles in their living room??

29th May 2014

Morgan in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

The rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits last night, not even those brilliant 1D boys who entertained the crowds nonstop and got absolutely soaked. My memorable moments have to be dancing along to the Macarena before the lads came on stage, Niall trying to imitate a Mackem accent, Harry falling over in the rain, Liam trying to slide across the stage and failing miserably, the brilliant fireworks and all the red and white streamers! Thank you lads for an amazing show, you didn’t disappoint.

For one lucky directioner, the fun doesn’t have to end. We’re giving you the chance to have your very own Harry Styles life-size cut out in the comfort of your own home. Harry’s been hanging around the studio for ages and it’s time he moved out. To be in with a chance of winning him all you have to do is go to our Facebook page and post a bid on the photo of Harry. The highest bidder at 5pm will get to keep him and all money raised will go to our chosen charity of the year, the NSPCC Sunderland.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your last chance to win premier tickets to Northumberland Plate Day at Newcastle Races. It’s also John Morgan’s last show tomorrow so we’ll have to make sure he has a good send off.

1D Day!

28th May 2014

Morgan in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Today will now be known as 1D Day!!! It’s finally here, the day most of Wearside’s female population have been looking forward to. That’s right; Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis will be performing in front of more than 50,000 screaming girls (and yes, I’ll be one of them). I finally got my tickets this morning and I’m ridiculously excited. I even managed to find the Set List for tonight which has made me even more excited!! If by any chance you notice a deranged 27 year old dancing around like a fool in the red standing section come over and say ‘Hi’, I don’t bite.

I actually thought I’d be the oldest person on the pitch but it would seem a few of you on Facebook are hitting 60 and still planning on having a wild night! I hope you all have an amazing time!!! Even though the weather is awful, it still hasn’t dampened our spirits. I can’t believe people were already queuing outside the stadium at 7 o clock this morning!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for another chance to win tickets to the races with me and Mr Morgan! I will be here, but whether or not you’ll be able to hear me is a different question! I can’t guarantee I’ll have a voice left after tonight!!!

Those 5 lads don’t know what they’ve let themselves in for......Wearside Welcomes you One Direction. #SUNFM1D

The Return of Morgan in the Morning

27th May 2014

Morgan in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

He’s back! That’s right, for one week only John Morgan will be coming out of your speakers. Simon’s treating himself to a relaxing trip to France and John’s kindly stepped in to keep his seat warm while he’s away and keep me company.

We kicked off our new competition this morning, giving you the chance to win premier tickets to the Northumberland Plate Day at Newcastle Races. It’s ridiculously easy to win, just answer 4 general knowledge questions correctly and you’re in; the questions aren’t even related to horse racing.

We also had a little History lesson today and John was pleasantly surprised when he found out I have a History degree......although surprise turned to shock when I didn’t know what happened in 1666! I think I was off the day they taught that. Thanks to Annie who called in to kindly remind me that the Great Fire of London happened in 1666.......tomorrows lesson will be maths.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for what can only be described as One Direction Fever!! Over 50,000 screaming girls will be arriving at the Stadium of Light to see the world’s biggest boy band perform in our lovely city. We’ll be giving away even more tickets so don’t miss out!

One Direction madness

23rd May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well after much teasing, Simon finally played those 2 One Direction songs you’ve all been waiting for as part of our Double Dose of One Direction. Our lucky listener was Kim McAllister from Ryhope who was over the moon!!! She’s planning on taking her daughter who just turned 18 at the weekend. Don’t feel sad if you didn’t win; I heard through the grapevine that we’ve got even more tickets to giveaway but ssshhhh, keep it to yourself!

With only 5 days to go till the world’s biggest boy band graces our city, Denise Brown sent us an amazing video of the moment her 8 year old daughter Rhianna found out she was going to the concert. She’s so overwhelmed and excited at the same time she cries her eyes out!!!! If you haven’t seen it yet, get to our Facebook page and give it a watch, I guarantee you’ll end up with a lump in your throat.

Yet again we have another Bank Holiday to look forward to and Simon’s even more excited than usual. It could be because he has a lovely week off planned and I can guarantee his beloved camper van will already be stocked up for his road trip to France. I on the other hand will not be having a week off in the sun, instead I’ll be joined by the one and only John Morgan!!! That’s right, he’s back from Tuesday and if the last time he was on the show is anything to go by it’s definitely going to be entertaining!

Enjoy your Bank Holiday everyone........let’s hope the sun comes out to play!

I'm going to be the next Chewbacca!!

22nd May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Only 6 days to go and you’re still waiting to hear 2 One Direction songs played back to back to be in with a chance of winning those tickets. Simon was so mean this morning because he knows how much people want those tickets. He played 1 One Direction song then Stephen did his news and then Simon played another 1D song and the phone lines went nuts. Unfortunately the 2 songs have to be played straight after each other, so he was just teasing! He’s so mean.

On Facebook and Twitter this morning we were asking if you had any ideas of what we could buy as a wedding gift that looks expensive but is actually pretty cheap? Basically Simon and I will be attending 5 weddings this year between us and research out today says that the average cost of attending only one wedding is roughly £400!! That includes the cost of an outfit, hotel, perhaps the hen/stag do and then of course there’s the present. Due to the cost, 97% of us would try and pick the cheapest gift. Our favourite suggestion on Facebook was from Chris who said that we should go to the wedding with a gift tag all written out and attach it to the biggest present we can find! Genius idea Chris, absolutely genius.

I hope all you Star Wars fans heard my showbiz news this morning. J.J. Abrams, director of the Star Wars films has offered fans the opportunity to appear in Episode VII. As part of a fundraising initiative, Abrams has asked fans to donate at least $10 (£6) to UNICEF via Omaze website. Those who donate will be entered into a draw to win a behind the scenes tour of the set in London, a chance to meet the cast, and they’ll be transformed into a Star Wars character to shoot a scene which will be used in the film!!!!!!!! I’m definitely entering myself, especially if it only costs £6! This is my time to shine!!

1 week to go!!

21st May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you didn’t notice, I was off at the start of the week and returned today after what can only be described as an unbelievable weekend of birthday celebrations in London. Free champagne, karaoke, secret cinema, Ricky Gervais, Harry Potter tour, friends, family, laughs and sunshine.....next year has a lot to live up to! I’d also like to say a huge thanks to all you lovely listeners who got in touch to wish me Happy Birthday.

Even though I was at work on my birthday I was spoilt rotten! Apparently nobody wished footballer Yaya Toure a ‘Happy Birthday’ when it was his which he doesn’t seem happy about! We wanted to know what happens at your workplace when it’s your birthday. Some places seem to be very generous; Yasmin who works at B&M in Houghton was treated to flowers and a tannoy announcement on her 30th and Jules was spoilt rotten with banners, balloons and chocolates, which is amazing considering she works on a team of 17 men!

I’m pleased I came back today as Sam Smith was on the show having a chat with Simon and I about his new single ‘Stay with me’ going straight to number 1. He was absolutely lovely, so pleasant and chatty. He was in a very good mood as he’d just been told that his single ‘Leave your lover’ had gone straight to number 1 on the American iTunes chart! He’s only 22 and he’s achieved so much already. Don’t worry if you missed it you can catch it now on our Listen Again page.

The countdown has begun for the One Direction concert........1week today!!!! Check out our Twitter page to see Niall at the stadium in his very own SAFC kit, that’s right, they were here yesterday rehearsing! Tune in tomorrow to see if we play those 2 One Direction songs for your chance to win tickets!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!

16th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s my favourite day of the year.....that’s right it’s my birthday; the only day when it’s ok to be selfish! Most women my age would prefer perfume or jewellery but no not me. Simon gave me one of the best presents; a Star Wars Wookie key ring that actually makes a noise like Chewbacca, and I love it! He knows me so well.

If by any chance you tuned in this morning and heard Peter Griffin from Family Guy serenading you with festive jingles, don’t be alarmed. Both Simon and I are huge Family Guy fans and I found out today that the creator Seth McFarlane is releasing a Christmas album this year, which only reminded us of when Peter Griffin released his. If you have a spare 5 minutes try and watch it on YouTube, it’s quite possibly the funniest clip of the entire show.

It was your last chance to Grab Grundy’s Grand today and we were really hoping to hand over another thousand pounds, unfortunately Jimmy from Peterlee only managed 4 out of 10. Never mind, when Simon’s managed to save up enough cash he’ll no doubt give you more chances to grab it.

Don’t forget to tune in next week when Simon will be chatting to Sam Smith and keep listening out for 2 One Direction songs played back to back, for your chance to grab those tickets. Unfortunately I won’t be back from my birthday trip to London until Wednesday........don’t miss me too much!

Danni's Cafe Open For Business

15th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Seeing as we’re always wanting to give back to our cherished listeners, (who’ve made us Number 1 in the region yet again) we opened Danni’s Cafe. You heard correctly. We’ve opened a cafe in our reception, giving you the chance to come in, say hello, and get a nice hot cuppa on your way to work. It’s not just any normal cuppa by the way; it’s made by yours truly in a special one of a kind Sun FM mug which you get to keep!

If you’ve been listening all week waiting to hear 2 One Direction songs played back to back in the hopes of winning those sought after 1D tickets then you’ll have heard Sharon Morgan from Roker snapped them up! We’ve had loads of eager people calling in whenever a One Direction song’s been played, but Sharon was our lucky winner this morning and she’s decided to treat her niece who’s a huge fan. Simon even hinted that we might have more tickets to giveaway!!!! He’s such a nice guy........sometimes.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your last chance to Grab Grundy’s Grand. We’ve already had two winners so far and it’s so simple to win; you only need to answer 10 general knowledge questions correctly in 60 seconds. Let’s end it on a high and make one more Wearsider a thousand pounds richer.

P.S It’s my birthday tomorrow..........just saying.

Double Dose of One Direction

14th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you haven’t heard, it’s my birthday on Friday and Simon’s been hinting that he’s got a few surprises up his sleeve. Now I’m not sure if that’s something to be excited about or weary of? Knowing Simon, I should probably be concerned. I’m the type of person who hates not knowing what’s happening. Even my sister said last night, “I hate it when it’s your birthday or Christmas because you always want to know what you’re getting!” It’s actually bugging me that I don’t know what Simon’s got planned. I heard him trying to have a secret chat with Katie McClements and the phrase “Butlers in the Buff” was mentioned........that would definitely be a good way to kick off the birthday shenanigans!!

We still haven’t played a double dose of 1D yet, or ‘Double D’ as Simon likes to call it. We’re giving you yet another chance to win tickets to see One Direction at the Stadium of Light in 2 weeks time and it’s so simple to win them. At some point between now and the concert we will play 2 One Direction songs back to back. As soon as you hear them, give us a ring and you could be seeing the lads in the flesh!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your penultimate chance to Grab Grundy’s Grand. It comes to an end on Friday and we’ve already gave away a couple of thousand. You only need to answer 10 general knowledge questions correctly and you could be a grand richer.......simples!

What grinds your gears?

13th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

We all have our little bugbears at work. Those little things that irritate the life out of us! An office survey out today has listed the top 10 habits that infuriate co workers. From personal hygiene to skiving colleagues, we can all relate to at least one. Not mentioning any names, there’s quite a few things on that list that happens at Sun FM towers. My personal pet hate is people who steal other people’s food from the fridge!!! It really bugs me when I bring food in, look forward to eating it, only to find it’s ‘disappeared’. We wanted to know what bugs you in the office and some of you were not afraid to spill the beans. Will on Facebook went on a rant......then shortly after deleted his post, and Steve on Twitter complained about flatulence!!!! Who on earth does that in the office!?

Did anyone catch DIY SOS: The Big Build last night? It was in Sunderland and it was nice to see my lovely city in a good light for once, seeing as whenever it’s normally featured on TV it’s for all the wrong reasons. Nick Knowles and his team were in Houghton helping out the Finlay family and if you watched it without shedding a tear, then your heart must be made of stone! I’m a very proud Mackem, and what I loved most was seeing so many local tradesmen coming together to help out a family they’ve never met and doing it all for free! Just another reason to be proud of my city.

The station that loves to give

12th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well ‘Congratulations’ to Emma Stewart from Thorney Close who managed to find those One Direction tickets hidden at the Silksworth Ski Complex. Don’t panic, we’ve got even more tickets to giveaway as part of our Double Dose of One Direction competition that started today. It’s pretty simple, all you have to do is listen throughout the day and when you hear two 1D songs back to back, just give us a ring and those tickets are yours!!

Causing much debate this morning was the discussion about whether Gary Barlow should give back his OBE after it’s come to light that he, along with a few other people allegedly signed up to a tax avoidance scheme and now Gary might have to pay back tens of millions of pounds. A lot of Gary’s female fans on Facebook weren’t happy that Gary was getting bad press and I must admit that I agree with the majority when they said that he should definitely pay back the money he owes but that he received his OBE because of his charity work so he shouldn’t hand it back.

Tune in tomorrow for your next chance to win tickets to see Planet Circus which is back by public demand. They have a spectacular new show featuring acts that vary from the death defying to the hilarious. To win the tickets, all you have to do is listen out for a Krusty the Clown sound clip which has a word missing. Give us a ring, tell us the missing word and you’ll be off to the circus.

Where on Earth are these 1D tickets??

9th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Research out today claims that almost two thirds of couples claim packing for a holiday has caused an argument before the holiday’s even started, due to women packing ‘unnecessary’ items. On average, a man will pack 18 items of clothing for a week away while women pack 36 items. Now come on ladies, own up, we’ve all done it!! I wasn’t even surprised to find out that when it comes to packing holiday clothes, 53% of women go over the baggage allowance, and 77% of men claim that their other half uses their case to pack extra clothes. Not only that but when you actually get to your destination, 9 out of 10 women end up not even wearing the majority of clothes they’ve taken, we even end up taking on average 8 pairs of shoes. There’s nothing wrong with it though, and it definitely is necessary to pack all that stuff. You never know for definite what the weather’s going to be like, and every outfit needs matching shoes and jewellery!!

I hope at some point over the weekend someone will find these 1D tickets!!!!!!! With all the questions that have been asked over the last week, I thought they would’ve been found by now. Especially when a few of you got in touch yesterday to say there were loads of people out and about in the same area looking for them. We had a phone call this morning from a very disgruntled dad who had just got in from nightshift and was hounded by his kids to go out and look for them straight away; poor thing, he must be shattered!! I hope it doesn’t go on too long, in case they’re never found and then 2 tickets to see One Direction will have been wasted.

Here’s what you missed........

Hallelujah!! We can never say that this football season’s been boring.........we’ve beat Man City twice, Chelsea twice and our best pals the Geordies TWICE! We’ve been to a final at Wembley and took over London, and up until a few days ago we could’ve been relegated!!!! But Gus and the lads made every Mackem very proud last night, beating West Brom and securing another season in the Premiership. So it was no surprise that today’s show was full of Sunderland spirit. We wanted to know what one word would describe how you’re feeling today after last night’s shenanigans. A lot of you said “Happy”, “Relieved”, “Ecstatic” and “Wonderful”; my personal favourite was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”.

Those 1D tickets still haven’t been found and my sources tell me some of you are VERY close. A few people have already been out and about searching for them this morning, a lovely lady called in to say she was out in her dressing gown trying to find them. Loads of people were calling to ask questions as to where they’ve been hidden. We can only answer Yes or No and if you’re listening throughout the day, you’ll hear more clues than anyone else!

FYI here’s a little marriage tip from me to you, (not like I’ve ever been married before) apparently the secret to the perfect marriage is to split the household chores evenly......sounds perfect for women, not so much for the men.

We have a WINNER

7th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Today we’ve been asking what job your career teacher at school told you you’d end up with and we wanted to know if they were right. Graham called in to tell us his teacher told him he’d end up in a dead end job, so he felt great 25 years later when he bumped into him and let him know that he did end up in a dead end job, he became a teacher! Chris on Facebook was apparently told he’d amount to nothing, wasn’t clever, wasn’t funny and didn’t have any looks so he was told he should consider being a breakfast show DJ...............thanks Chris!

Those One Direction tickets still haven’t been found and the phone’s been ringing nonstop this morning with people asking questions as to their whereabouts. A few people were already out and about searching for them. If you hadn’t heard, we went and hid a pair of tickets a couple of weeks ago and they were found pretty much straight away, but Simon being a very giving person went and hid another pair, and they’re currently still hidden!! All you have to do is phone us up, ask a question that can only be answered Yes or No and hopefully it’ll lead you to where they’ve been buried. If you’re listening throughout the day, you might even get to hear extra cheeky clues!?

Someone’s grabbed Grundy’s Grand!!!! Congratulations to Sandra Eggleston from Farringdon who must have been paying attention over the weekend when we gave away all the answers to the questions; she’s now a thousand pounds richer!

THANK YOU!!

6th May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Everyone loves a bank holiday and this will be one I’ll never forget. After 9 weeks of training it’s now all over and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed myself!!! I managed to complete the Sunderland 10k in 1 hour 14 minutes, and I’ve never been prouder. It looks like Chris Tait on Twitter guessed my finishing time correctly and I bet he can’t wait to receive his prize, and no Chris, it’s not an elephant. One of my highlights on Sunday was when I ran alongside Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper, and no I wasn’t hallucinating. Another highlight was crossing the finish line listening to the Star Wars theme tune and seeing my mam, dad and little sister cheering me on holding a ‘Danni The Dart’ banner. I want to thank everyone who’s supported me; especially Steve Cram who gave me some brilliant advice over the last 9 weeks. Most importantly, huge thanks go to all you wonderful people who sponsored me and helped raise over £600 for the NSPCC Sunderland!! Steve was right when he said I’d end up catching the running bug, it’s definitely something I want to keep up, but I doubt I’ll be putting myself forward for any marathons anytime soon.

If you hadn’t heard over the weekend, I accidently on purpose let slip all the answers to this morning’s Grab Grundy’s Grand questions. Lyndsey from Grindon thought she’d prepared, however when asked which actor has played Tony Blair and Brian Clough, she answered Bucks Fizz.......???!!!! Erm , sorry Lyndsey but I don’t remember seeing Cheryl Baker alongside Helen Mirren in ‘The Queen’.

Don't forget that those 1D tickets still haven’t been found................I wonder if Simon will give out any clues as to their whereabouts???

Keep calm and run like Forrest Gump

2nd May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Ex Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts was on the show this morning which made Simon’s day. You never know what’s going on in Simon’s head and as much as I was nervous about what he was going to ask her, he didn’t do too badly. She was absolutely lovely and really does love living in the UK. She’s been here so long that she’s even started picking up the lingo. She wanted to talk about her new single ‘Clockwork’, which is really good, and very catchy. Don’t panic if you missed our little chat, you can hear it on our Listen Again page.

The Sunderland 10k is just round the corner and 4th May is nearly upon us; nervous is an understatement! I don’t actually know why I’m nervous, I suppose I’m just worried I injure myself, can’t finish and end up Ietting Steve Cram down. I’m pretty much prepared for the race; I’ve got my trainers, running outfit and my running number. All that’s left to do is run! Simon's even started a sweepstake for people to get in touch and let us know how long you think it'll take me to finish the race..........I think if I finish it in less than 80 minutes, I'll be one happy lady!!

Thank you for all the help and advice I’ve had from not only Steve but also Paul Hobrough from Physio & Therapy, my personal trainer Ernest at the Aquatic Centre and all my family and friends. Even Simon’s tried to be encouraging!!

I’ve raised nearly £500 for the NSPCC Sunderland and I’m over the moon! You’ve still got a couple of days left to sponsor me and I’d really appreciate anything you can give.

Keep searching for those One Direction tickets!

2nd May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s One Direction fever on Wearside! We kicked off our Right Direction to One Direction ticket giveaway on Monday, and by Tuesday afternoon James Magee from Houghton had found a pair of VIP tickets on Whitburn beach!! However, if you hadn’t heard........we’ve gone and hidden another pair!!!! These tickets will get you to the front of the standing area where you could be able to smell the sweat of Harry, Liam, Niall, Louis and Zayn! The phone’s been ringing off the hook with eager teens trying to grab those tickets, and in some cases grown men and women who have no doubt been pestered by their kids to find the tickets. All you have to do is phone us up, ask a question that can only be answered Yes or No and hopefully it’ll lead you to where they’ve been buried. If you’re listening throughout the day, you might even get to hear extra cheeky clues!?

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow when we’ll be chatting to Ashley Roberts; ex Pussycat Doll, runner up of I’m a Celeb, and Dancing on Ice judge. It’s no surprise that Simon cannot wait!!!!! God knows what he’s going to say to here; we all know what he’s like...........this could end in tears.
