Hmm... well hello there.
It seems Mark Black is off this week but has left his blogging account open, how silly of him. I'm the Sun FM Christmas tree:
Check me out eh... pretty fine-looking tree aren't I? I came all the way from Thoburn's in Jacky White's and I've seen a few things in this office since then! You might be finding it hard to read a post from a tree, what do I sound like? Well as you're reading, imagine me talking in a Morgan Freeman voice. That's right, you're doing it now... aren't you. You've slowed down the speech in your mind and given it a rich, deep tone, hahaha.
It was Mark Black who decorated me actually, along with a bit of help from the Sun FM fairy Helen Rogers. He wasn't gentle either, hands EVERYWHERE *shudder* I was glad when all that was over.
Lately, the one with the loud sucking machine that they call Tina The Cleaner has been talking about toilet rolls going missing. I haven't seen anyone stealing them but the One With The Bald Head and Glasses always has a full looking bag with him when he leaves and seems to spend a lot of time in the toilet! Although he does eat a lot of fruit.
I've become convinced that The Pretty Girl Who Reads The News is secretly an alien, spying on us. She's started to communicate in a series of weird clicks (think Skippy the bush kangaroo) and although no one seems to understand her, they've started replying in clicks! I think she may be using some kind of brainwashing technique but thankfully it doesn't seem to work on trees *click*.
I don't know what all the people in this office are supposed to be doing, but there is a lot of laughing that goes on, and the occasional elastic band war, which the One With The Silver Hair and Glasses seems to win quite often.
There are Some People Who Live Upstairs but some of them spend a lot of time outside. I don't know what's out there, but it must be pretty exciting because they're alwaaaaays out there. Sometimes they go in twos or threes so maybe it's a scary thing? They always come back smelling like smoke so maybe there's fire involved? I hope not, trees catch on fire very easily :(.
I don't think I've got long left to live you know... :( I heard One With The Silver Hair and Glasses talking about how when I died I'd be recycled by some people called the Council. I looked up what this meant and maybe it's not so bad because apparently it means I'll be used again. I hope I come back as something in this office, it's quite interesting living here. I hope I don't come back as toilet roll though, not with One With The Bald Head and Glasses about!
Uh oh, I have to go now, I can hear the Blonde One That Talks A Lot coming back into the office. Merry Christmas!

It is now officailly Christmas EVERYWHERE, as we have now finished all of our light switch ons (just my own Christmas tree to do now). If you came down to any of them can I say a massive thankyou, especially for braving the cold. These events are some of the best that we do, but because of the time of year they are on the chilly side. The final switch on we did was in Peterlee and that was particularly cold. One of those nights where you lose feeling in your nose. It was worth it though as we had a great time, gave away a huge prize and Matt and Darren from Hollyoaks were brilliant, even when asked if they were going back into the show, only for one of them to say "well my character was killed off..." awkward!
So even though I haven't got my Christmas tree up, it should happen in the next couple of days, I have been feeling Christmassy especially getting the classic Christmas movie clips together. You forget how many great films there are, Elf, scrooged, It's a wonderful life, Love actually, The Grinch. I mentioned this to a few people and they all had their favourites and would start reciting lines from it. If you google Greatest Christmas films, you come across various different lists and they include some odd 'christmas' movies. For example on one list you had Die Hard and Gremlins! Now I know they are taking place at Christmas time, but does that really qualify them as Christmas movie? The only reason they make the list I think is that they are always on at Christmas, it's the only explanation. You can win all this month on our advent compitition just listen out for the classic Christmas movie clip.
Talking about Christmas means I realise that I've nearly been married a year! which has flown over, and on that note I probably should go and get a card. See you soon.

So at the weekend we had THAT christmas ad, you know the one, big truck, santa on the side of it, fizzy drink company telling us about holidays! BUT wait, who are they to say christmas is here, I would say christmas arrived in Sunderland tonight with the official light switch on. It's always a great evening and we are all going to be down there along with Steve Cram. It's the first time that I get a little twinge of that christmas feeling, and it's fine to hear christmas songs on the night. The question is should we be playing christmas songs on the radio yet?? My personal opinion is NO. Don't get me wrong, I love christmas songs, they are all timeless and we dust them off every year, but we don't want to dilute the specialness (it's a word!) of them. If we start playing them now I fear we will be really fed up of them by christmas. As you can see I've included a little christmas tune for you, incase you need it, hopefully this will get you through until December when we can roll out Mariah, Wham and of course various artist on 'Feed the World'. I don't want you to get the wrong impression, I am a fan of christmas and all that comes with it, but I like it for the short period it is here and just don't want to start too early. So it's nice that the christmas lights are going on, but just hold off on the tunes a little longer and I promise you will love them more for it. HoHoHo!!

Another busy week at Sun FM, and we had the first sign that christmas is on the way, the boss sent around the christmas schedule. It's always interesting when this comes round as everyone works out if anyone is getting more days off than anyone else, it all seems fair!! Also it's great having christmas on a weekend, as we get two extra days. You can see christmas slowly creeping in in other ways as well, as we talk about christmas light switch ons, christmas card compititions and of course the most important part...the work christmas night out. I do feel that this year is almost done as we start talking about christmas, scary really, more so as it will mark my first wedding anniversary. Honestly it has been lovely but I have to say I do seem to have a few more grey hairs and there does seem to be more of me around my middle!
So the big event this week was the announcement of the Red Hot Chili Peppers coming to the Stadium of Light next year. It is going to be huge, and it had to be really after Take That and the Kings of Leon. It was funny seeing all of the speculation on the run up to the announcement and the reaction afterwards. On the whole most people think it's great, but you can't please everyone can you!
With all the talk about about christmas, everyone is thinking about the cost. You can apparently do christmas dinner for about £2.88 a head! Turkey and all the trimmings with all the budget ranges from the supermarket, but do you really want to skimp on this part. Cut back on other areas, but the christmas dinner is the main bit. We know things are tight this year so the return of Sunderland Secret Sound is a welcome one. Monday morning Simon Grundy will reveal the new sound (will it be in Roker again this time!! who knows), same deal, tell us what it is and where it is and you can win the cash. I've done a little bit of maths and if you guess it before christmas you will win around £2000, that would do nicely wouldn't it? Monday morning is the first time you can hear the brand new sound, I'll have to tune in as well because we weren't even allowed a little preview, and note to all my family and friends...I really don't know what it is, and if I did I wouldn't tell you anyway!

I've done various things in my time at Sun FM, and have worked with the guys at AAA gymnastics and trampolining before, this time was a little different. They have now got a harness which allows you to jump higher and also fly! Yes I would be like superman flying through the air, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Firstly the team got us to do forward rolls, I thought, easy enough. It took ages to get all the way round, each time getting a bit further. It is the strangest feeling because you lose track of where you are, I definatley needed the harness on! Then we did some backward rolls, which were easier. I was told they were easier and did doubt it. I did think the harness would be around my middle but it did ride up around the ribs, which made it a bit trickier to do the rolls. Finally we got to fly, which was brilliant, alot of fun, but once up there all I could do was dangle, there was no chance of any rolls. To get the full effect watch the video's below...enjoy!!
