New Ideas

24th January 2012

Firstly can I apologise for my lack of Blogging over the last two weeks. If I say I've been really, really busy will you believe me? Surprisingly I really have been. We have launched 'Spotlight On Sunderland' which is paying tribute to some of the brilliant community groups we have on Wearside, as well as the great work they do. North East Sport were the first group I visited who really are everything a good community group should be. It is completely run by volunteers providing a full programme of sporting activities for children. The staff are so passionate about what they do and it's great to see the support from the parents as well. I've also been to see the work being done by Premier Kindergarten in Plains Farm. This is a vital resource which sadly could be closed due to lack of funding. Again everyone involved is so dedicated and provides something which is vital to the local community, and it would be a real shame if it closed. You can find out more about these groups by clicking on the link Spotlight On Sunderland and also if you are part of a community group and would like to be featured just fill in the form.

Elsewhere we have been getting ready for our very first style awards, and obviously need your help as 'we' are not that stylish. There are lots of categories this year from the best smile award to Wear rear (so we have everything covered) there is still time to nominate, you have until Friday, and if you do nominate you could bag yourself £200 to spend at Debenhams. Nominate someone you know for a Style award here. We have also got some of the Desperate Scousewives off the telly coming so it should be a fun night at the Grand Ballroom of the Tavistock Roker Hotel.

Next week I could be meeting a Dalek! I'll let you know how that goes.

Blown Away By New Year.

6th January 2012

Happy New Year! I think I can still say that, can't I? It can get a little odd, I did once have someone say Happy New Year to me in March. Granted I hadn't seen them, and it was the first time that year that we had spoken, but it still seemed a little odd.

So how how was the first week of 2012 for you? I was asking this on the air and most people said it was rubbish. I think this was caused by it being the end of the week and everyone being back at work, as earlier in the week people were buzzing, with the football results Sunderland have had. Although in saying that we have had ridiculous winds this week, this was my back garden one morning!

As you can see the wind causing a little problem!

So the football and the wind dominating this week, apart from that it's been quite quiet around the office, I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the quiet is at the same time that Simon and Marie are on holiday! January always takes a week or so to really get going, with a bit of a hangover from christmas (metaphorically speaking of course). So I'll Blog again next week when things really get back to normal.
