But if we are going to achieve a step change in the economic prosperity of the region, we must not only improve its overall image nationally and internationally, but also demonstrate why it is an ideal place to invest and do business
The Regional Image campaign sets out specifically to do this by:
Improving awareness of the region and its assets
Creating positive perceptions about North East England
Attracting investment
Attracting talented people to live and work here
Attracting more business and leisure visitors
With the aim of creating strong and positive new perceptions about the North East, the "Passionate people. Passionate places" campaign harnesses the region’s best assets.
It features the very best the region has to offer through its people and the key areas of history and heritage, coast and countryside, city culture and innovative business.
Today, the region continues to be a hot-bed of innovation and industrial strength. North East England is one of the principal centres of economic activity in the UK, with its traditionally strong manufacturing base now supported by emerging high-technology and knowledge-based businesses
The life sciences, biotechnology and healthcare sectors are growing rapidly, with thriving clusters in diagnostics, medical devices, clinical trials and pharmaceuticals.
There’s also the creation of Newcastle Science City, a £600m project between One NorthEast, Newcastle University and Newcastle City Council.
We have world-class capabilities in the power generation, distribution and renewable energy sectors too, with the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) at Blyth leading wind, tidal and photovoltaic power generation.
Process industries in the North East are a major asset. The North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) consists of 200 pharmaceutical, biotechnology, speciality, petrochemical and commodity chemical companies. Their combined economic power provides about £8bn of GDP and over 25% of the region’s industrial base, employing 34,000 people
The region has also made huge advances in the fields of nanotechnology and ICT. North East England’s strong digital sector includes microchip manufacture, robotics, software, informatics, e-commerce, games design and data manipulation.
The Regional Image campaign shouts loudly and proudly about the diversity and quality of firms doing business in our region. We want to demonstrate we’ve got world-class cutting edge businesses that can compete both nationally and internationally. We hope you can help us do this.
The campaign continues to gather great momentum with fantastic support from businesses and key partners, and also through exposure in the regional, national and international media.
Nearly 1,000 organisations are spreading the word by using the North East England and ‘Passionate’ branding in their marketing activity.
Displaying the North East England and 'Passionate about' logos demonstrates your passion for the North East, and shows you are playing your part in the drive to improve the image of the region.
In doing so you will be helping to spread the word about North East England and raise its profile as an innovative and forward thinking region. The logos are designed to be modern and flexible, and can be tailored to suit your specific needs.
