Repairs needed to roof of aquatic centre

Sunderland aquatic centre could close for up to nine months next year as repair work is carried out to part of it's roof. It opened less than 9 years ago at a cost of 20 million pounds.

A Sunderland man has been jailed for historic sex offences.

56 year old William Joseph Smith, formerly of Hylton Castle, was found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court in January after being charged with rape of two young girls. He's now been sentenced to six and a half years imprisonment for the abuse against the two young victims during the 1970's.
