There is plenty of work happening across Sunderland to make the city look better and also lots of organisations
trying to help. Back on The Map grew out of the governments New Deal programme for Hendon and the East end of
Sunderland. This programme lasted for 10 years and really improved the look of the area, unfortunately this funding
has now finished but the work is carried on as a charity. Their aim is to support the local area and help residents
build a stronger community. From their shop they host craft groups, credit union as well as offer debt and welfare
advice. They are also trying to get residents to take a more active role in improving their community so they are there
for advice on ways to achieve objectives that the residents have. They are very keen to have the local community use
them more so if you have an idea on how to make your community better they are more than happy to listen to you
and offer advice. You can find out more about them via facebook.
