Spotlight on Sunderland

the community shop 2

You might have seen The community Shop on St Lukes Terrace in Pallion, but it is so much more than

a charity shop, it is home to Ford, Pallion and Millfield Community Development. They do so much great

work for the local community and I was really impressed at how well run and organised they are, and full of good ideas

on projects they can do. The main things they do are the Helping Hand service for the over 60's, which is a handy

man service, not only valuable to help out, but gives people someone to chat to aswell. They also have the Four

Seasons Activity Group which provides play schemes as well as family outings, arts and crafts days and more. They

are always on the look out for volunteers, and it is also posible to gain an NVQ while volunteering with them, and if you

have any old clothes or items that you no longer need please donate them to the community shop. I was

made to feel very welcome when I got there and left feeling encouraged that we have such a good local organisation

which is focused on the community but at the same time knows what they do best and how to achieve it. If you want

to find out more about them get in touch on 0191 514 7688
