Spotlight on Sunderland

You have probably passed the Royalty Theatre numerous times, but have you ever been to see a show? I can say

no I haven't and probably like you had an image in my mind of what an amateur theatre group was like. This couldn't

be further from the truth. Although it is completely run by volunteers, everything about the way it is run is professional.

I walked through the doors expecting to see a pokey little performance room, and instead I was faced with not only a

reception area and fully licensed bar (I know, that's a bonus) but a lovely and bigger than expected auditorium. There

is nothing about this place which is amateur yet it is all down to these people giving up their time to put on seven

shows a year. If you want to get involved it is more than just acting on stage there is costume, set building, box office,

bar, technical, so much to get involved with.  I'd urge you to go along and have a great night out at the

theatre but also support this fabulous local group. You can find out more about them and the shows they are doing by

logging onto their website www.royaltytheatre.co.uk
