Bradley Lowery

The family of Bradley Lowery have confirmed that he has sadly passed away.

Bradley, who was six years old, had captured the hearts of millions across the country whilst battling neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.

From his appearances at the Stadium of Light, to the Grand National and award shows, the young Sunderland fan touched the nation.

These people on Wearside shared their thoughts:

Recently, his family were given the devastating news that the cancer was progressing quickly and new tumours had formed in his lungs.

He had been receiving palliative care at home.

At the age of 18 months Bradley Lowery was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma and battled with it for over 2 years until he was successful in beating cancer and went into remission.

However in July 2016, Bradley relapsed. Specialist and progressive treatment for his type of cancer was not available in the UK and to send Bradley abroad for specialist treatment his family began fundraising.

Bradleys Fight caught the attention of people across Wearside and then the nation. His family campaigned to gather funds for his much-needed operation while little Bradley did all he could to fight the disease.

Bradley was a mascot for the Premier League match between Sunderland and Everton, in which he met his soon-to-be best friend Jermain Defoe. After the game, Everton donated £200,000 to the cause.

Unfortunately, doctors in America told the family that the treatment would only prolong is life slightly or be too strong and kill him.

Bradley's condition then deteriorated to the point where the treatment would have been ineffective.

Although he lost his fight, he captured the hearts of millions of people and will truly be remembered as a little warrior.

You can still help by donating money to help thousands of children who suffer from Neuroblastoma through the Bradley Lowery Foundation.
