Entries are now open for the 2017 Siglion Sunderland City 10k and Half Marathon! The Run Sunderland Festival will take place on Sunday 7th May at Keel Square, a symbol of the city’s renewal and regeneration, following a successful move into the City centre in 2016.

We are looking forward to welcoming back many of you who have taken part over the past six years to join in the celebrations, along with newcomers looking for a new challenge.

With spectacular coastal views and a brilliant atmosphere, although we cannot guarantee the weather, we can guarantee a superbly organised event with plenty of support on the route and an army of enthusiastic volunteers to make it a great day for all taking part. All participants will receive a t shirt, medal and goody bag. There is also limited parking, baggage services and plenty of fun activities for those not taking part.

So here we are then. 7 days from now it will all be over. I hadn't properly run for about 10 years. Training started in January, and I didn't even leave the gym and run outside until a few weeks later.

I am itching to get it done now. 10k is only about 6 miles, but you have to start somewhere. Secretly, I am getting ideas about my next race now!

One of the things you notice when training for a race, or just getting fit, it how you progress. In this world of social media, posting my Fitbit results on Instagram and on Sun FM's twitter has become a regular thing. 

I looked back over the last few months in my phone this weekend. I ran a 5k in 40minutes when I started, and now I can do it in 30mins. I am sure that it can even be in about 25mins in the next few months too.

One of the most important parts of the training, in and out of the gym, is the support I have had from the boys and girls at Totum Sport. If you are the kind of person who just takes a bottle of water along to the gym and on a run, perfect.

This product comes in small blue sachets, you get 10 in a box. It tastes very salty, because originates from, well, the sea.

 

The minerals in the drink go straight into your body, cellular nutrition call it, and maintain the balance in your body, as you sweat over a run or workout.

 

The product has meant I have hardly ANY calf pain and recover MUCH quicker. Worth giving it a go, see what it can do for you. 

I did a 'dress rehearsal' this morning for the Sunderland 10K. I did a full 10k, a little hillier than the real race, and managed it in 1hr 4mins. I am aiming for an hour, and genuinely think I can crack it on the day, with the help of the crowds and the atmosphere. 

I tell you one thing that was VERY odd. I have lost 7 lbs over the last few months of training, nothing weird there. But before my 10k run this morning and now I have lost 2lbs.......somewhere in Wearside I suspect! 

Fingers crossed my final blog next Sunday will include a pic of me and my medal....!
