The countdown to Christmas is on - Thursday 23rd November

Sun FM's Simon and Danni from Simon Grundy in The Morning will be switching on Sunderland's Christmas Lights this November at Sunderland's Keel Square - with pop princess Pixi Lott!

Make sure you don't miss this spectacular event!

There will not be any fireworks at tonight's switch on.

Fireflight Event

A spectacular live performance, called Fireflight, will take place on Thursday 23rd November to celebrate the launch of Sunderland’s brand new arts hub, The Fire Station.

The free performance will be delivered by internationally-acclaimed outdoor theatre company Periplum, who were co-commissioned by The Cultural Spring and Sunderland Music, Arts and Culture (MAC) Trust. The event includes an ambitious participatory programme delivered by partners – Live TheatreDance City and Sunderland Music Education Hub – who have worked alongside Periplum.

The flame of the Lambton Dragon lives on with a local Lighthouse keeper; burning brightly across Wearside for 25 years until it explodes brightly into the sky. The flame journeys across Sunderland’s landscape, passing from generation to generation through the city’s past, present and shining a light on a bright future.

This family friendly outdoor event combines music, theatre, dance, aerial performance and fire to celebrate the beginning of Sunderland’s new cultural quarter.

Fireflight is SOLD OUT.

Ticket holders are asked to be on site by 5.45pm at the latest, the show starts at 6pm and lasts for 30mins.

If you don’t have a ticket for Fireflight you can still join us at 6.45pm at the front of The Fire Station for the Fire Finale which is not ticketed and open to all, including attendees of The Light Switch On. The Fire Finale will be a beautiful pyrotechnic display at the front of the Fire Station with a dance performance led by Dance City.
