Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Everyone loves a bank holiday and this will be one I’ll never forget. After 9 weeks of training it’s now all over and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed myself!!! I managed to complete the Sunderland 10k in 1 hour 14 minutes, and I’ve never been prouder. It looks like Chris Tait on Twitter guessed my finishing time correctly and I bet he can’t wait to receive his prize, and no Chris, it’s not an elephant. One of my highlights on Sunday was when I ran alongside Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper, and no I wasn’t hallucinating. Another highlight was crossing the finish line listening to the Star Wars theme tune and seeing my mam, dad and little sister cheering me on holding a ‘Danni The Dart’ banner. I want to thank everyone who’s supported me; especially Steve Cram who gave me some brilliant advice over the last 9 weeks. Most importantly, huge thanks go to all you wonderful people who sponsored me and helped raise over £600 for the NSPCC Sunderland!! Steve was right when he said I’d end up catching the running bug, it’s definitely something I want to keep up, but I doubt I’ll be putting myself forward for any marathons anytime soon.

If you hadn’t heard over the weekend, I accidently on purpose let slip all the answers to this morning’s Grab Grundy’s Grand questions. Lyndsey from Grindon thought she’d prepared, however when asked which actor has played Tony Blair and Brian Clough, she answered Bucks Fizz.......???!!!! Erm , sorry Lyndsey but I don’t remember seeing Cheryl Baker alongside Helen Mirren in ‘The Queen’.

Don't forget that those 1D tickets still haven’t been found................I wonder if Simon will give out any clues as to their whereabouts???

Here’s what you missed........

Ex Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts was on the show this morning which made Simon’s day. You never know what’s going on in Simon’s head and as much as I was nervous about what he was going to ask her, he didn’t do too badly. She was absolutely lovely and really does love living in the UK. She’s been here so long that she’s even started picking up the lingo. She wanted to talk about her new single ‘Clockwork’, which is really good, and very catchy. Don’t panic if you missed our little chat, you can hear it on our Listen Again page.

The Sunderland 10k is just round the corner and 4th May is nearly upon us; nervous is an understatement! I don’t actually know why I’m nervous, I suppose I’m just worried I injure myself, can’t finish and end up Ietting Steve Cram down. I’m pretty much prepared for the race; I’ve got my trainers, running outfit and my running number. All that’s left to do is run! Simon's even started a sweepstake for people to get in touch and let us know how long you think it'll take me to finish the race..........I think if I finish it in less than 80 minutes, I'll be one happy lady!!

Thank you for all the help and advice I’ve had from not only Steve but also Paul Hobrough from Physio & Therapy, my personal trainer Ernest at the Aquatic Centre and all my family and friends. Even Simon’s tried to be encouraging!!

I’ve raised nearly £500 for the NSPCC Sunderland and I’m over the moon! You’ve still got a couple of days left to sponsor me and I’d really appreciate anything you can give.

Keep searching for those One Direction tickets!

2nd May 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s One Direction fever on Wearside! We kicked off our Right Direction to One Direction ticket giveaway on Monday, and by Tuesday afternoon James Magee from Houghton had found a pair of VIP tickets on Whitburn beach!! However, if you hadn’t heard........we’ve gone and hidden another pair!!!! These tickets will get you to the front of the standing area where you could be able to smell the sweat of Harry, Liam, Niall, Louis and Zayn! The phone’s been ringing off the hook with eager teens trying to grab those tickets, and in some cases grown men and women who have no doubt been pestered by their kids to find the tickets. All you have to do is phone us up, ask a question that can only be answered Yes or No and hopefully it’ll lead you to where they’ve been buried. If you’re listening throughout the day, you might even get to hear extra cheeky clues!?

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow when we’ll be chatting to Ashley Roberts; ex Pussycat Doll, runner up of I’m a Celeb, and Dancing on Ice judge. It’s no surprise that Simon cannot wait!!!!! God knows what he’s going to say to here; we all know what he’s like...........this could end in tears.

Who wants One Direction tickets?!

30th April 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Our One Direction VIP tickets were found yesterday!!!!! Only 2 days into the competition and James Magee from Houghton found them buried at Whitburn beach. He’s planning on taking his 11 year old niece who’s a HUGE 1D fan, and the pair of them joined us in the studio for a chat. Little Keira was still a bit shocked and James is no doubt the best uncle in the world right now! Don’t panic though, Simon is such a giver that he’s gone and hidden another pair of tickets somewhere on Wearside so keep listening for clues and if you want to ask a question then give us a ring.

Simon found an article this morning that suggests most couples argue when deciding where to go on holiday. To cheer you all up we wanted you to remember your favourite holiday and tell us all about it. The majority of you said that family holidays to Florida and Australia have been your most memorable. Personally, my favourite holiday has to be when I went to New York a couple of years ago; it was in December so I did some Christmas shopping, went to a Knicks game at Maddison Square Garden went ice skating in Central Park and I ended up on TV!!! I had an amazing time and it was something I managed to tick off my bucket list!

Steve Cram was in for the last time this morning and he had tons of advice for the last few days of my training. First of all he wants me to go for a light jog tomorrow and not do anymore running so that I’m a caged animal on Sunday morning ready to run. He wants me to stay away from alcohol leading up to Sunday as it dehydrates you and he wants me to be as hydrated as possible. Thank you so much to Steve for all his advice over the last 9 weeks. I was over the moon today when he said I’d been “a very good pupil”!!

What's on your Bucket List?

29th April 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

We’ve been asking this morning if you had to make a list of things you wanted to do before you died what would be number 1???? Simon found an article this morning of a woman who has crossed off her bucket list 'swimming with sharks'. I’ve got things like seeing the Great Wall of China and learning to speak French among many more, but my number one thing is to visit Dollywood in Tennessee, with the hope that Dolly Parton makes an appearance. Mr Grundy thinks he’s already seen and done everything he’s ever wanted, but a few of you on Facebook and Twitter still have a couple of things you want to cross off your list. Emma Neale wants to do a sky dive and Darren Longstaff said realistically he’d like to go to Australia, and unrealistically he’d like to go to Space. That’s it Darren, dream big!

Our One Direction ticket competition continued today as the tickets weren’t found yesterday. If you haven’t heard, Simon went and buried a pair of VIP 1D tickets somewhere on Wearside and to find them you have to phone up at any time throughout the day, ask a question that can only be answered "Yes" or "No" and if you’re listening all day you’ll obviously get to hear more clues than anyone else. Simon was being very generous this morning and gave away LOADS of clues!!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for our last chat with Steve Cram. He’s been training me for the last 8 weeks so I’d be prepared for the Sunderland 10k on Sunday..........yep, only 5 sleeps left!!!! Nervous is an understatement!
