To strike or not to strike......that is the question

26th March 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

With some schools closed today due to a teachers strike, a few of you vented your frustration on Facebook. Comments that were posted were pretty much split down the middle – some were for the strike and others weren’t. Now I’m going to try and be as diplomatic as possible: I understand that a lot of parents have had to use holidays at work so that they can look after their kids because the schools are closed and I can see how that would be frustrating, but then on the other hand if you’re not a teacher, how can you question the reasons behind their strike???? I suppose that’s a debate in itself.

Steve Cram was back today to give me my running tips for week 4. The last 3 weeks have flown by and I’m impressed at my own motivation to go out running after I’ve been to work. Steve looked pleased that I’ve stuck to his training plan, which is good as I definitely don’t want to let him down. He said that because I’ve now got a routine going, and I’ve added variation to my sessions I should now try to focus on adding some distance. He wants me to add a few hill sessions to keep my heart rate moving around and also extend one of my running sessions to 40 minutes instead of 30. If like me you’re training for the 10k for the first time, then you should listen to Steve’s tips over the last 3 weeks, they’ve been really beneficial for me, and if I can do it anyone can!!

Round 3 of our new competition ‘Champ or Grill’ didn’t go as planned this morning.........John Paul was a loser!! He actually thought that Veal Oscar and Lobster Newberg were names of sports stars...............Aw well, tune in for tomorrow’s chance to bag yourself those VIP tickets to the launch night of Champs Bar & Grill in Washington on Friday.

Here’s what you missed........

I was little tired this morning as I stayed out late on a school was worth it though!!! I took my mam to the Empire last night to see The Beatles musical ‘Let It Be’. I honestly didn’t know what to expect and it was amazing!!! Quite possibly one of, or even the best things I’ve seen at the theatre. The lads imitating Paul, John, George and Ringo were unreal; unbelievably talented and they sounded so much like the real thing it was as though you were at an original Beatles concert. My mam was taken back to her youth; apologies to those sat in a 5 feet radius.........yes the woman singing, screaming and dancing was in fact my mother, who thoroughly enjoyed herself! It’s definitely a must see and I guarantee you will not be left disappointed.

A few of you on Facebook actually suggested ‘The Beatles’, when we asked if there was any band you’d like to see reunited. I definitely agree with you on that one, however I don’t agree with bringing back ‘The Krankies’ or ‘Ken Dodd and the Diddymen’.

We had a really good afternoon yesterday. If you didn’t notice on Twitter, Simon was posting a few teaser shots of how our photo shoot was going. That’s right, we had a photo shoot.........Simon even got asked to straddle a car!!!!! Anyway, one of the photo’s Simon kindly posted to the world was one of the 2 of us; don’t be surprised if I look like a giant, yes I’m standing on a box! I didn’t actually realise how short I am, so thanks for that Simon, now everyone can see my stumpy little legs.

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for round 3 of ‘Champ or Grill’ to try and bag yourselves VIP tickets to the opening of ‘Champs Bar & Grill’ in Washington on Friday.

What song sums up your weekend???

24th March 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I don’t know about you but I was having a brilliant weekend until last night. On Friday I spent the afternoon watching my little sister try on wedding dresses! I didn’t know what to expect; seeing as she’s the baby of the family I was unsure how I’d feel seeing her so grown up. It was tears all round as she walked out wearing the most perfect dress I’ve ever seen. Safe to say me, my mam and sister in law were bawling our eyes out. After spending all day and night with my niece and nephew on Saturday and then shopping with my mam yesterday afternoon I was a tad annoyed that someone would try and rain on my parade. No surprise that I woke up this morning thinking “What a difference a day makes”.

We wanted to know what one song would sum up your weekend. A lot of you on Facebook were trying to feel positive after the football result on Saturday with suggestions of “Things can only get better” and “The only way is up”, and some of you must have got out the right side of bed this morning suggesting songs like “Walking on Sunshine” and Pharrell’s “Happy”. My favourite on Facebook was Joanne’s suggestion of Mis-Teeq’s single “One Night Stand”..........I wonder what Joanne was up to over the weekend!?!?

We kicked off our new competition this morning ‘Champ or Grill?’ We’re giving you the chance to join me and Simon on Friday as a VIP at the launch of the new ‘Champs Bar & Grill’ in Washington. We give you 5 names and you have to tell us if they’re names of sports champs or names of things you’d put on a grill.........'Champ or Grill'.....get it?!

Anyway tuna in for round 2 tomorrow................

No Make-up selfies and Socks on C***s

21st March 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

You’ve probably noticed all the ‘no make-up selfies’ making the rounds on Facebook this week. At first I didn’t understand how taking a photo of yourself with no make-up on would raise awareness for breast cancer; however the point is that if you upload a photo you then have to make a donation to Cancer Research UK. Instead of taking a photo of myself with no make-up on which would’ve scared the bejesus out of people I just made the donation. There’s actually a way lads can join in; you need to post a photo of yourself wearing a sock, and only a sock.......however this sock is not on your foot, it should be worn on a part of your body that rhymes with sock and it’s to create awareness for prostate cancer. Lads take the photo and then make a donation. It’s all for charity and the no make-up selfies donations raised £1million in 24 hours!!!! Simon was hoping to get involved but we couldn't find a sock small enough..........

I noticed on Twitter today that Tom Fletcher from McFly / McBusted has released a video tribute to his newborn baby son; named “Buzz Michelangelo” ...........aside from the name the video is amazing!!! Tom is definitely a dab hand at creating videos to show his love for something, or someone. You might remember the speech he made at his wedding which has had over 12 million views on YouTube, or you might even remember how he and his wife announced that they were expecting a baby by carving out pumpkins on Halloween. Well this video beats them both; Tom took photos of his wife everyday throughout her pregnancy and he’s edited them together to show her bump getting bigger and bigger. In the video Tom’s singing a song called “Something New” and at the end when little Buzz appears, Mr Grundy cried like a baby........he’s such a wimp! You have to watch it though, it’s brilliant!!

Enjoy your weekend, whatever you’ve got planned. I’m off to watch my younger sister try on wedding dresses.......that’s right, ‘younger’ sister! I just hope they hand out free champagne while I’m there!!

It's officially Spring!!

20th March 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I thought there might have been something funny in the air last night because I had a weird dream that I took Una from The Saturdays’ kids to Florida, however she only has a little girl and in my dream there were 2 kids in their teens. Simon had a weird dream as well, although it was about me and he says he can’t remember exactly what it was??? Maybe freaky dreams have something to do with the ‘Spring Equinox’? Not only is today the first day of spring but it’s also the ‘Spring Equinox’ which means that the sun will shine directly along the equator. It only ever happens twice a year and when it does, the length of the day and night will be the same. I.E the sun rose at 6.09am this morning and should therefore set at 6.09pm. Just another fun fact I thought you’d appreciate!

I had such a good laugh with the Sun FM team last night. Me, Simon, Mark Black, Tim West and Roger Kennedy went to Laser Quest in the town and it was hilarious! It would seem Mark Black is a secret MI5 spy who in his spare time practices sniper shots in his back garden! Not only did we have fun but it’s also a good workout session as well! I didn’t get the “don’t wear white” memo so I was an easy target. I think because I was the only girl on the team the lads working at Laser Quest helped me out by giving me a couple of tips and telling me where everyone was hiding..............I still came third though, which isn’t too bad. I was furious I didn’t beat Simon but at least I didn’t do as bad as Tim. I don’t want to be harsh but he ended up with -6 points!
