Men Vs Women

29th July 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well it’s official; female brains really are different to male minds! Researchers from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria tested 31,000 men and women from 13 countries across Europe and put them through 3 tests of brainpower. The first was a numeracy test which involved questions such as working out how much a cut price car would cost when new. The memory test involved trying to remember a list of 10 words and the final test was a ‘verbal fluency’ test which involved naming as many different animals as possible in a minute. From their research they found that across the board women had better memory skills and men actually came out top in the maths tests in all countries at all ages! So in future maybe let your husband deal with the finances and if he accidently forgets your anniversary don’t get too’s not his fault his memory is officially rubbish!

Day 2 of the Summer Cash Tour where you could win a family holiday to FLORIDA!!!! It really is the holiday of a lifetime. Believe me it doesn’t matter how old you are, you’re guaranteed to enjoy every minute. We asked this morning if you could chose where to go anywhere in the world where would it be? I’ve always wanted to go to China, Japan and Hong Kong which I think will only be possible if I have a cheeky win on the lotto. For all you people who’ve always wanted to go to Florida tune in to Mark Blacks Show to find out how you could win.

The second football question was asked by Stephen McCabe today. Keep a list of all the answers this week and on Friday you could win a pair of season cards to see Gus and the lads at the Stadium of Light.

Have you seen Indiana Jones?

Here’s what you missed........

I’m back after a lovely long week off relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Although this morning wasn’t my first day back to work......Simon and I were at the Roker Hotel yesterday for the final day of the Sunderland International Airshow. Today obviously feels like a Tuesday and this week will be a long one, but it’ll all be worth it because yesterday was brilliant! The weather was perfect, the planes and helicopters were perfect and the company, well it was Simon so I’ll go with ‘tolerable’. The Red Arrows were by far my favourite set but don’t worry if you weren’t there, you can check out our new Airshow Gallery on the website and have a look at all the things you missed out on.

Back to the grindstone today and we were talking films. A poll out today has listed ‘Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark’ as the film we’re most likely to watch multiple times. Apparently on average we will all see it 29 times throughout our lifetime!! It would seem I’ve got some catching up to do as I haven’t even seen it once. We were trying to think if we had actually watched any film more than 29 times. Surprise Surprise, the one film Simon’s seen that many times is ‘The Sound of Music’.........On Facebook, ‘The Goonies’, ‘Jaws’ and of course ‘Frozen’ proved to be popular.

Keep listening all week as you don’t want to miss any of our football questions. Keep a list of all the answers and on Friday you could win a pair of season cards for the Stadium of Light!

Here’s what you missed........

Schools out for summer.....(in roughly 5 hours time). As it’s the last day of term we wanted to know what fond memories you have of leaving school. Simon and I can remember ‘Games Day’; the one day of the year when everyone in school gets to relax and have fun. I used to always take in ‘Twister’ and I remember when I left Primary School we had a leavers assembly and many tears were shed when we sang “Thank you for the days”. Not only are kids leaving school today but one school in particular are losing their Head teacher! Congratulations Mrs Adamson on your retirement, Grindon Infants will miss you.

Britain’s Got Talent finalists Bars and Melody joined us for a little chat this morning about their new single ‘Hopeful’. You’ll definitely remember them from the show; the two little lads who performed a song they’d wrote about bullying. I kept forgetting that they’re only 13 and 15 years old, their song writing talents are unreal and they’re absolutely adorable. After our little chat, Leondre actually complimented me on my outfit....the little charmer!! Catch our chat on the Listen Again page.

I’m really nervous about tonight; Simon and I will be waiters at the VIP launch of The Ropeworks. I’ve never waitressed before and I apologise in advance if I drop any plates, or if Simon helps himself to your food.

And finally, I’m on holiday next week. I hope you don’t miss me too much!!!!!

What is the worst gift you've ever received?

17th July 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

We mentioned the ‘C’ word this morning.......that’s right, a word that should never be mentioned in July. I don’t mean that ‘C’ word, we were talking about Christmas!!! The only reason we mentioned it is because Amazon have already revealed a list of the Top 20 Christmas presents out this year. Surprisingly the number one gift is a cuddly toy called the ‘Sorgenfresser Worry Eater’; it’s a cuddly toy that looks like a cross between ‘Finding Nemo’ and Zippy from ‘Rainbow’. Kids are encouraged to write down their worries on a piece of paper and put them in the Sorgenfresser’s mouth. It made us ask the question, “What is the worse gift you’ve ever received?” Mine was a flannel and a bar of soap off my nana that was wrapped in cling film, and Simon’s was a bowl of plastic fruit. One comment on Facebook beat both of those hands down; Lynn Cuthbertson said that her EX mother in law once bought her daughter a hairbrush with hair in it, and some out of date chocolates that had turned a nice shade of white!!!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow when we’ll be chatting to 'Britain’s Got Talent' finalists Bars and Melody, the 2 teenagers who made it to the final with their song about the experiences of bullying. We’ll also be playing the last round of ‘Food or Fake?’ where you’ll get the chance to win a VIP table at The Ropeworks for you and 5 friends. You get to sample the new menu and laugh at Simon and I trying to be waiters. FYI if you’ve already won you’ve been warned, do not wear white!! Neither of us have served food before and we’re bound to spill something!

Shaun the Sheep, Loom Band dresses and Deadly Plants!!

16th July 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

A list of the best kids TV characters has been published by The Radio Times magazine and we were surprised to see that ‘Shaun the Sheep’ has been voted number 1. ‘Postman Pat’ came in second and ‘Sooty & Sweep’ were third. I can’t believe characters like ‘Tom & Jerry’ or even ‘Top Cat’ weren’t in the top 10 and characters like ‘The Clangers’, ‘Bagpuss’ and ‘Scooby Doo’ seem to be the most popular choice on Facebook and Twitter. Keep your suggestions coming in because we could end up with an even better list that The Radio Times.

Everyone’s jumped on the Loom Bands bandwagon; from kids to grown men, I’ve seen loads of people wearing the bracelets and I must admit even I’m sporting one made for me by my niece. However it would seem that this craze has reached new levels of craziness. People have actually started making clothes!!!! Yes that’s right, you can buy kids dresses, adults dresses and even a snazzy two piece. One dress has just been sold on eBay for a whopping £170,100!!! I suppose you could set the kids a little task for the summer holidays and cash in on their creations? Just a suggestion, but it could keep them busy for 6 weeks.

Simon found a news story this morning about a deadly plant thought to be extinct which has been discovered at.........Souter Lighthouse in Whitburn!!!!! Dun Dun Duuuuuunnnnn. Members of the public have been advised not to even touch the ‘corn – cockle’ because it is full of toxins and acids that could lead to vomiting, dizziness and in extreme cases, DEATH. It’s weird to think that something like that is actually growing in our city. Give it a couple of years and Sunderland will turn into ‘The little Shop of Horrors’.
