Who wants to go on the Polar Express??

22nd November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Hopefully you won’t be too upset for much longer kids; things seem to be looking up!

Technically Christmas is still cancelled, but we’ve agreed on a solution. We’re looking for a very special boy or girl to come up with an amazing idea which would make the elves happy enough to return to work. If yours is the best idea then you and your family will be whisked aboard the Polar Express to meet Santa and the Elves and talk to them face to face. All you have to do is register your idea at, or you can post your suggestion in our official Christmas post box at Olivers Dental Surgery in East Herrington. We need you to save Christmas!!!

We had a few kids call in this morning to give their suggestions, and they were adorable. Dominic suggested we send the elves fluffy onesies so that they’re nice and warm when making the toys. Richard suggested we raise money and send it to Santa so he can pay for everything that the elves are asking for. He also suggested we should put in about £100 each..........And, finally, little Yasmin thought it would be a good idea to send all the elves letters to say thank you for being so generous. Keep them coming in kids, they’re absolutely fab.

#FollowFriday is back for another weekend. Today’s victim is @NeilPilkington, (I wonder if he has a famous relative called Karl?) Anyway, he’s a volunteer coach with SAFC Foundation Under 13’s & 16’s. He seems to be an avid tweeter so tune in on Monday to see what kind of weekend he got up to.

Simon and I will be spending the weekend together......well Saturday afternoon anyway. We’ll be hosting the Castle Dene Christmas light switch on which kicks off at 3:15pm with entertainment including singing, dancing and a few festive games. I hope to see you all there, and if you register online, you could win the chance to be on stage with Mikey North AKA Gary Windass from Corrie, and actually flick the switch with him!!

Have a fab weekend, hopefully see you tomorrow!

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Christmas is still cancelled everyone, and it’s not Sun FM’s fault!

If you hadn’t heard yesterday, Michael Oliver from Olivers dentist phoned up to speak to Simon; he was extremely annoyed that Christmas had been cancelled and he wanted to stress that something needed to be done, so he’s invited Sun FM down to the surgery today. We will be at Olivers surgery to have discussions with Michael and see if we can come up with a solution. Tune in to Mark Black’s lunchtime show as he’ll be live from the surgery, giving all you lovely listeners regular updates. There will even be gifts for the kids and mince pies for anyone who wants to pop along!! Michael has even organised a choir to perform. Thank you to Michael and everyone at Olivers dentist for really trying their best to save Christmas.

On this morning’s show we spoke to Jamie Rickers who will be starring as Buttons in this year’s Christmas pantomime Cinderella at the Empire Theatre in Sunderland. He’s most well known for being a children’s TV presenter on CITV and Nickelodeon. I never knew that he’d been doing that job for 12 years!! He’s really looking forward to spending the festive period in Sunderland. He actually mentioned that he has godparents who live close by so he’ll have a chance to spend some time with them. If you didn’t catch Jamie’s chat with us don’t panic, it’ll be on our Listen Again soon as IT get in to work.

I love reality TV so Simon has suggested I give an “I’m a Celebrity” update every morning. This morning mainly consisted of Joey Essex quotes. Quotes such as “I don’t know how to blow my nose” and “I’m well good at counting, I used to count all the time” He’s a little treasure and Simon definitely needs to put a bet on him to win!!!

If you didn’t know, today is World Hello Day......basically, you should say "Hello" to 10 strangers which should then encourage peace worldwide???

CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED - Even more updates!

20th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s causing outrage on Wearside, and it’s taking over our breakfast show!

If you hadn’t heard our breaking news story at the start of the week then you wouldn’t have heard that Christmas is cancelled! To cut a long story short, the elves have gone on strike in the North Pole so toys are not getting made. Not only that, but Santa is upset that elf esteem is at an all time low. Our Christmas correspondent Stephen McCabe had loads of people phoning in this morning either to complain or show their support for the elves. Derek Hatton, former Labour Deputy Leader of Liverpool Council has actually been recruited by the elves to be their consultant. He took on Margaret Thatcher in the 80’s and now he wants to take on Santa Claus and put him in his place!

Another caller this morning was Michael Oliver from Olivers dentist. He was extremely annoyed that Christmas had been cancelled and he wanted to stress that something needed to be done. He suggested that Sun FM go to his surgery tomorrow to try and work out a solution. We think it’s a great idea and we’re so happy that someone like Michael has reached out to help.

In other news, a dog walker found £60,000 floating in a river and he handed it over to the police. Simon decided to ask the question “What would you do?” In the eyes of the law, finders are not keepers. You might think that I’m a goody two shoes but I would hand it in, especially after seeing the state of the notes in the river. You never know, they could have come from a robbery and could have that dye on them so you wouldn’t be able to spend them anyway. Did you know that even if you find something like £20 in the street, by law, you have to hand it in to the police!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow to see if we have any further festive updates. Also, tune in to Mark Black’s lunchtime show from 10am as he’ll be live from Olivers dentist, and fingers crossed he’ll have some good news to announce?!

19th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you hadn’t heard yesterday, CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED. Stephen broke the news after hearing rumours from sources close to those involved. Today we managed to hear directly from a press conference at the North Pole and heard Ivan Issue the elf representative confirm the rumours and explain why the elves have cancelled Christmas. He seems to make a good argument. For years the elves have been making toys for boys and girls and have never had a pay rise. It’s affecting elf esteem and elf and safety is at an all time low. It’s freezing at the North Pole and they’re never allowed to have the heating on. Ivan stated that until working conditions improve then toy making will not continue. Simon decided to call Santa to see how he’s feeling about the situation. Santa seemed pretty jovial to be honest. He was upset that the elves feel this way but he’s always one to make light of a bad situation. I can only apologise on behalf of Sun FM if any child has been affected by the news. I know my niece and nephew are not happy that Santa won’t be coming this year, and until a solution has been found, it looks like Christmas 2013 will not go ahead.

If by some miracle a solution is found, you might want to be aware of a list which came out today showing the top 10 worst presents you could possibly send someone. You might want to stay away from things such as personalised handkerchiefs and gift vouchers.

And finally, on a lighter note, the Oxford Dictionary have announced their word of the year.......Selfie!! If you don’t know what it means, it’s basically a photo you take of yourself which is then uploaded to a social networking site. We thought we’d jump on the bandwagon and post one of ourselves, however I’d just like to make clear that the one of Simon and Stephen which shows me ‘napping’ in the background is misleading.....I was only resting me eyes!!

Tune in tomorrow to see if we have any further developments to give you on the Christmas is cancelled scenario.

18th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

This morning Stephen came into the studio to break the news that Christmas has been cancelled. We thought it was a joke at first and didn’t know what he meant. All morning he was gaining further information and tried to update us as much as he could. From what he managed to gather from sources, it would seem that the staff at the North Pole have gone on strike, so as it stands, Christmas is in fact cancelled!! Apparently a press conference is going to be held tomorrow morning so hopefully Stephen will have more information for us then.

On a lighter note I have some thrilling Star Wars audition updates.........actually it’s more embarrassing than thrilling. So, I set off for Manchester at 3am on Saturday morning, managed to get in the HUGE queue at 7.30am and stood queuing for 2 hours. It was freezing, but I went prepared, and by doing so I think I proved to many that I may have been over the 23 yr age limit. I seemed to be the only person to think of comfort as I took a chair, a blanket, a packed lunch and a flask of coffee. After queuing for 2 hours I reached the gate and saw a sign saying ‘start of queue this way’ – so basically I’d only been queuing to get in the queue!!! Anyway, after another hour I reached the security guard who was shouting something about headshots? Everyone around me seemed to know what he was on about because they started taking huge files out of their rucksacks.......I on the other hand strolled up to the security guard and politely asked “what would happen if I didn’t have headshots?” To which he replied “can you move to the other side of the barrier please”. Gutted and embarrassed is an understatement!!!! I travelled all that way and didn’t even get to showcase my talents! It wasn’t a complete waste of time, I did see some amazing Storm Troopers, and I’ve never been to Manchester before, so every cloud I suppose........

Our #FollowFriday victim @chrismelville79 seemed to have more of an interesting weekend than me! He’s a very interesting man; a former Coldstream Guardsman of 12 years, he now works as a skip driver and has a season ticket for SAFC. He kept us entertained and seems to prefer using photos to describe his day rather than words.

Stay tuned tomorrow to find out what on earth is going on in the North Pole. If you have any worries please feel free to contact the station.

May the force be with me

15th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well I don’t know about you but I thoroughly enjoyed myself last night at the Christmas lights switch on, despite it being freezing! I met Gus Poyet who tried to keep me warm and I definitely got in the festive spirit listening to the school choirs and seeing Santa’s Christmas message. I think the best part of the night was the fireworks display. They were brilliant!!

I thought I’d share with all of you this morning my good news; I got a phone call yesterday off my little sister to say her boyfriend proposed to her in Paris and she said yes!!! From what she told me, it couldn’t have been anymore romantic, unless a white dove swooped down and gently placed the ring on her finger!! I’m over the moon for you Nat, and Chris is a very lucky man.

In other news I have a very important and very busy weekend ahead of me. As you should all know by now, I’m a big Star Wars fan, and yes you already know I’m a geek. Anyway I’m planning on driving to Manchester in the early hours to queue up and audition for the new Star Wars film, due to be released in 2015. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Disney were having open auditions all over the country for Episode VII, and Manchester is the closest one for me. Wish me luck!!!! I’m really excited.....I hope I get a lightsaber!!!

Another individual with a busy weekend ahead is our #FollowFriday victim @chrismelville79. Chris is our chosen victim this weekend who now has to try and entertain Sun FM listeners. He hasn’t tweeted much so he’ll have to start being creative in order to keep us interested. Good Luck Chris.

Tune in on Monday to find out how both of our weekends went. Hopefully one of us will become a movie star!!

Christmas Lights Galore

14th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Tonight is the night Gus Poyet will switch on Sunderland’s Christmas lights and I can’t wait! Simon and I will be there as well to try and keep the crowds entertained. I’m actually pretty nervous for that bit, seeing as it’s the first time I’ll be doing it, and because Simon has kindly informed me of the gigantic screens which will be up showing my face......I hope they’re not in HD.

We had a little trial run last night in Grangetown. Simon and I were at the Thompson household switching on their Christmas tree lights. We even decorated the tree, although Simon put in minimal effort and just threw the beads on instead of draping them in an orderly fashion! Sarah and the Thompson family were absolutely lovely! They were very welcoming and even put on a little buffet for the Sun FM team. I say ‘team’ because not only were me and Simon there, but Liam Smedley hosted his Drivetime show live from their sitting room, and Katie McClements joined us as well to do the news! It was the first time Sun FM have ever broadcast from a listeners home, and we’re definitely up for doing it again. A big Thank You to the Thompsons for being such lovely hosts, and an even bigger thank you to Jack the Jack Russell and Fudge the Parrot for not making too much noise!

Seeing as the celebrity sneezer was guessed correctly yesterday we managed to find a new sneezer for this morning’s round. Sherrie called in today with a very specific question “Does he do magic?” We said NO; therefore she guessed that it was Paul Daniels...........who happens to be one of the most famous magicians known to man. I’ll make a suggestion; when you call in with a question, you might want to have a back up celebrity in mind??

I hope to see you all at the Civic Centre tonight for the Christmas switch on, and the fireworks. Wrap up’s going to be freezing!

Who was our Celebrity Sneezer???

13th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

...............Brian “It’s a puppet” Conley!!!

Ray from Hetton correctly guessed our celebrity sneezer this morning and won himself a lovely chunk of cash just before Christmas. Well done Ray! After he won, Ray contacted us to say he’d read his star sign this morning and oddly enough it stated....”Cash plans you make are strict but smart. Luck talks to S.” oooooooooooo could that certain S be our very own Mr Grundy????

Don’t worry listeners we’re already prepared with a new celebrity sneezer which kicks off with Mark Black after 11am today.

Last Friday we were talking about how much of a tearjerker the new John Lewis Christmas advert is this year. This morning however, I found a link showing a sneak peak of a new Sainsbury’s Christmas film, and I must admit, even grown men will shed a tear at this one! It’s 45 minutes long and is titled ‘Christmas in a day’. It’s made up of home videos showing real life festive events which were filmed a couple of years ago, showing how people prepare for Christmas; kids getting ready for Christmas eve, Christmas morning and the ultimate Christmas day dinner. The most emotional part shows three siblings recording a message for their dad who is away in Afghanistan.......The trailer is only 3 minutes long and the full film will be released on you tube next week. No doubt Sainsbury’s will use some of the footage for this year’s Christmas advert, they’d be mad not to.

Also on today’s shows we were asking you on Facebook and Twitter to come up with a concept for a new TV show seeing as a lot of people are fed up with the X Factor and most people aren’t even bothered about I’m a Celebrity starting on Sunday. The best suggestion on Facebook was from Chris who suggested we release a radio presenter in Roker park, give them a 5 minute head start and then people have to try and hunt them down. Not only that but Chris suggested the radio presenter should be wearing a mankini.........Simon seems up for it!!!

Simon and I will be in Grangetown later today to switch on the Christmas lights in the Thompson Household.....I can’t wait; we even get to decorate the tree first!!

Introducing Garden Peas and Blunt Scissors

12th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

This morning we announced the winner of our Listener Light Switch on. If you hadn’t heard, we were running a competition for one lucky winner to have a “celebrity” come to their house and switch on their Christmas tree lights. We use the term "celebrity" very loosely as we just meant me and Simon. We wanted to make one family on Wearside feel like a VIP and have their Christmas lights switched on before we head into Sunderland town centre on Thursday to switch on the city lights! We had loads of people enter and this morning we phoned our lucky winner to warn her that half of the Sun FM team will be coming to her house tomorrow. Our lucky winner was Sarah Jayne and the Thompson family in Grangetown. We actually spoke to Sarah’s mam seeing as Sarah couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. We’ve asked the Thompsons to stock up on custard creams and also asked if they can be nice to Liam Smedley, seeing as he’ll be doing the Drivetime show live from their sitting room, or in the garden, depending where they want to put him. As much as I love dogs I was worried that the winner of this competition would end up having a beast of a pet, but we’ve found out that the only animals living at the Thompson residence is a little Jack Russell...........and a Parrott!!

Also on today’s show you could tell we were starting to get bored in the studio because Simon came up with a game we could play to keep us entertained. Not only did it keep us entertained, but you found it entertaining as well. We were asking on Facebook and Twitter if you could try and come up with a new band name by merging two existing bands together. Simons examples were Savage Garden + Black Eyed Peas = Garden Peas and James Blunt + Scissor Sisters = Blunt Scissors. We found this game highly entertaining and a lot of you came up with some great ideas!! My favourite online suggestion was Dire Straits + Chris Rea = Dire rea......I found this highly amusing which just shows the extent of my maturity. It's an addictive game! I came off air 2 hours ago and I’m still thinking of some good ones!

Lest we forget

11th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I don’t know about you but I had a fab weekend. Apart from the obvious shenanigans with my mates, I had quite a lot of people tweeting me regarding the John Lewis Christmas advert which aired for the first time on Saturday night. Simon and I were given a link to it on Friday morning and after watching it we did warn you that it was a tearjerker! Loads of people were telling me it is definitely the best John Lewis advert so far. I have to agree, even the Lily Allen cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ is emotional.

Also on Twitter this weekend we were following @christaylorsafc as part of our #FollowFriday feature. From his tweets it would seem that Chris also enjoyed the John Lewis advert. He also enjoyed seeing Jason Manford at the Empire Theatre on Friday night, so much so that he tweeted he laughed so hard he literally soiled himself............I know we want our #FollowFriday victims to be honest but maybe keep certain information to yourself!!

I have the official list of celebs entering the jungle on Sunday. I think for health and safety reasons Gazza is NOT participating. There doesn’t seem to be any megastars this year. Depending on your age, if you were a teenager in the 80’s then your favourite will be Steve Davis and if you were a teenager in the 90’s then no doubt you’ll be looking forward to seeing Kian from Westlife. Personally, I can’t wait to see Alfonso Ribeiro AKA Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, just to see if he does his little Tom Jones dance!!

And finally, I hope you’re all wearing your poppies this morning with pride. It’s 95 years to the day that the Armistice was signed to mark the end of WWI. If you missed it yesterday, we at Sun FM will be playing our very own Armistice Day tribute which is being aired NOW. It’s the least we can do to commemorate our fallen servicemen and women who gave their lives fighting for our country.

Somewhere Only We Know

8th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s Friday!!!! And what better way to start the show than to find out what everyone’s plans are for the weekend. I’m having a girly catch up which will no doubt include a few bottles of wine. It was nice to see on Facebook that a lot of you will be taking part in the remembrance parade in the city centre on Sunday. Obviously a lot of you are also planning on going to the Sunderland V Man City game. Fingers crossed we come out of it with something!!

It’s that time of year again, the moment you realise that Christmas is not far away. That’s right, along with the Coca Cola truck we also look forward to seeing the festive John Lewis advert, and it’s been revealed that it will have its exclusive TV debut during a full ad break tomorrow night when the X Factor is on. However, we were sent a link to it this morning!!! It’s lovely and will definitely make you shed a tiny tear. It tells the story of a hare, who tries to make sure that his best friend, a bear, doesn’t miss out on Christmas day. With Lily Allen singing a cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know, I can undoubtedly say “Well Done John Lewis, you’ve done it again!”

Seeing as its Friday, it can only mean one thing......#FollowFriday. Our Twitter victim today is @christaylorsafc. From his Twitter name you know he’s a Sunderland fan. We gave Chris a challenge for the weekend. We want him to give us his views on the John Lewis advert on Saturday night, and also give us a running commentary of the game on Sunday. His last tweet was in January so he’ll have to pull his finger out to try and keep us entertained over the weekend!

Whatever your weekend plans are, I hope you all have fun and don’t forget to wear your poppy!

Mr Grundy is not a millionaire

7th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Well it would seem that Mr Grundy DID NOT win the Euromillions!! He thought he had, seeing as he took all his close family and friends to Harrogate yesterday (thanks for the invite). But unfortunately for him, he double checked the numbers this morning and realised he had to come back into work. So Ha Ha Ha, in your face Simon!

We had Jason Manford on the show this morning talking to us about his stand up tour “First World Problems”. He’ll be at the Empire Theatre here in Sunderland for two nights (8th & 9th Nov) and overall he’ll be touring for nearly a year!! He gave some good advice to anyone wanting to get involved in stand up comedy; practice hard and just do it. He actually got that advice from Peter Kay who once told him that he had to treat it as a job because if the average person works 40 hrs a week then why shouldn’t he be spending the same amount of time writing material and making up jokes. Don’t worry if you missed him this morning, you can catch the interview on our Listen Again page on the website.

And finally, all week we’ve gave away loads of chances to win prizes and this morning was no different. Sun FM is continuing to go global........The caller we had on to guess the celebrity sneezer was calling from Gran Canaria!!!! Lesley, originally from High Barnes decided to take time out of her relaxing girly holiday to have a guess at our celeb and hopefully win a bit of extra cash to spend on sangria. Unfortunately she was wrong which is good news for everyone else!

It’s Friday tomorrow and I can’t day closer to the weekend.

Hollywood is calling my name......

6th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you somehow didn’t know, I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and I heard something today which is quite possibly the best news ever!!! It’s been announced that Disney who bought out the George Lucas franchise, are holding open auditions for Star Wars Episode VII due for release in 2015. Upon further inspection I found that they’re looking for 2 cast members, one male and one female. The female needs to be, and I quote “beautiful, smart and athletic” to play the part of an orphaned 17-18 yr old. Now I’m not athletic and I’ve finally accepted that I’m not smart., but I still think I could pass for a 17 or 18 yr old. I’ve definitely got a youthful face and I love it when people think that my younger sister is actually the oldest! I think I’m in with a good chance. What’s even better is that the auditions are here in the UK. The closest audition to us is in Manchester on the 16th November. I’m so excited!! You only live once and if the rumours are true I could be starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch. Just imagine it, little Danni from the breakfast show on the big screen and walking the red carpet!!!

Simon deserted me this morning and with reports that a British ticket holder scooped last night’s Euromillions jackpot I’m a little concerned that he’s now a millionaire and he’s done a runner.....I wonder if he’ll pay for my acting lessons!?

Tune in tomorrow to see if Mr Grundy actually returns, and also don’t miss out on all the competitions we’re running all week.

Little Mix

5th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

We caught up with Little Mix this morning, their 4th time on the show. Unfortunately the girls couldn’t join us in the studio which might have been a good thing seeing as they were very excited and full of caffeine!! Always full of honesty, Simon started off the interview by upsetting three quarters of the group and announced that Jade was his favourite. He also said that their new song isn’t as good as ‘Wings’........This man doesn’t know when to put a sock in it. I personally think their new song ‘Move’ is by far their best, which won me brownie points from the girls. They were absolutely lovely to talk to and their hyperactivity is evident from all the giggling. Don’t panic if you missed it, you can catch it on our Listen Again page. They’ve also said that next time they come on they want to be in the studio.......probably to hurl abuse directly at Simon!!

Also on today’s show Simon and I worked out how fit we actually were. An article came out today with a link to a website which allows you to calculate your fitness age and find out if you’re old beyond your years. It takes less than 2 minutes to work it out. You only need to answer a couple of simple questions, the trickiest of which is measuring your pulse rate for a minute......especially, if like me you can’t find a pulse and then worry that you don’t actually have one. Surprisingly, both Simon and I, despite neither of us doing any exercise, actually have a fitness age of ‘younger than 20’. Check out the tweets we sent so you can work out your own.

Finally, it’s bonfire night tonight! I hope you all get to see some fab firework displays, just remember to stay safe! Even though I’m a grown woman, I hope my dad’s been to buy some sparklers so I can write my name in the sky!

Sunny the Seagull

4th November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Thank you to everyone who put forward their suggestions to name our new mascot. The lucky listener who suggested Sunny is Margaret Stephenson. Well done Margaret! I bet you’re over the moon to find out you’ve won a visit from the giant seagull himself.......

It would seem that we know how to pick them when it comes to Twitter followers. On Friday we kicked off round four of #FollowFriday and the unlucky victim was @mcelderrylover. From her Twitter name we could tell she was a fan of Joe McElderry, however we didn’t realise just how big a fan she actually was. Mr McElderry was mentioned in quite a few of her tweets, she even changed her bio to include “Once you’ve been McElderrified you never go back”. She sent over 300 tweets in the course of the weekend, however, she.....erm.....lost followers.......I wonder why?

We’ve had so many chances for you to win prizes today that I’ve lost count. First off we had the self proclaimed love machine John-Paul from Hetton winning tickets to the Sunderland V Man City game at the weekend. Then we had Debbie trying her luck at the celebrity sneeze, to no avail. Finally we had a brand new competition for one week only. Every morning we’re giving you the chance to win £100 worth of Poundstretcher vouchers. To celebrate the opening of the new Poundstretcher store we want you to remember Simon's shopping list. This is possibly the easiest competition known to man. As long as you have a pen and a piece of paper there’s no way you can go wrong....if you do, then shame on you!!

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for even more chances to win!!! And of course, Little Mix will be joining us for breakfast!!!

Movember has returned

1st November 2013

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It's the 1st of November today and therefore the beginning of Movember. Simon has decided not to take part this year due to all the horrendous photos taken of him last time.......i dont blame him, they were pretty bad.

Today is also the moment all Twitter followers fear, the moment we choose a Twitter victim to be followed all weekend in order to see how very interesting or very boring they actually are. Today’s #FollowFriday victim is @mcelderrylover, also known as Donna Kelders. From her profile you can see she’s a diehard Joe McElderry fan and before we started following her she had already sent over 68 thousand tweets!!!!

We announced the winner of our pumpkin competition this morning. All day yesterday we were asking you to send in photos of your carved pumpkins with the best receiving a spooky goodie bag. The winner was Jaklyn Commons from Fulwell whose 3 daughters each submitted their pumpkins and they looked great! There were some amazing pictures sent in, however taking a picture from Google and trying to cast it off as your own is also known as cheating.

And finally, as Simon kindly announced, it has been agreed (after much debate) that we’ll soon be starting a new segment on the show entitled “Date Danni”. Now if you can’t make out what this is about from the title then I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’m single.....and Simon wants to fix that. He wants to be the Cilla Black of the radio world to find me a man. He’s planning on vetting the lucky / not so lucky candidates and then chaperoning our dates. So be prepared to be grilled by Simon.......and probably my dad, and you wouldn't want to mess with Peter!

Well I’m off to Beamish now with my feathery friend the seagull.

Tune in on Monday to find out which lucky listener has won our Name the Seagull competition and has therefore won a visit from the seagull himself!!
