Happy New Year Everyone!

30th December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

As you all know, I’m the healthiest person you’ll ever meet (said in a sarcastic tone), so I thought it would be appropriate for me to give you 25 easy to follow resolutions for 2015 which will hopefully keep you healthy. They range from blowing one nostril at a time, to sneezing into your elbow instead of your hand. My favourite however has to be the Email Stomach Crunch; all you have to do is everytime you receive an email or a text message, tighten your tummy muscles and lift both your feet off the floor for a few seconds. This simple activity works your lower stomach muscles and protects your back from damage and eases back pain, especially if you’re sat at your desk for long periods of time.

Speaking of healthy people, Katie Bulmer-Cooke from this year’s The Apprentice was our celeb selector this morning and it was very enlightening to hear the reasons behind the songs she chose. For someone who took on Lord Sugar in the boardroom, I was surprised to hear that she has to listen to Destiny’s Child, Independent Women to give her a boost of confidence. Another of her song choices was Simply Red, You make me feel brand new, which was actually her wedding song, and if you’d like to see a hilarious video from Katie’s wedding just look at our Twitter’s well worth a watch!

Today has been officially my last show of 2014! I’m off tomorrow as I’ve got an early train to catch to Cardiff for my New Year shenanigans. I’ve been practicing my Welsh and now know the phrase “Are you single?” Whatever your plans are for New Year, I hope you all have a fantastic time, and fingers crossed 2015 is a good one!!! “Blwyddyn Newydd Dda” (That’s Happy New Year in Welsh)

Is it Monday today??

29th December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

I don’t know about you but I had a fantastic Christmas. A perfect day spent with my family, eating loads of food and receiving some amazing presents!!! My sister even said I am the easiest person to buy for. My favourite presents were a Storm Trooper onesie, a light saber and a wouldn’t think I was 27.

Anyway, back to working a ‘normal’ Monday and it doesn’t feel like Monday at all. It’s always the same with the days in between Christmas and New Year, where everything moulds together and you feel like you’re in limbo for a week. A few of you got in touch on Facebook and Twitter to let us know that you’re also back to work today, and then there are those who got in touch to kindly remind us that they were off for another week!! To be fair, I’m only in today and tomorrow then I’m off to Cardiff for New Year, so I can’t complain.

Lola Saunders from this year’s X Factor joined us this morning to pick her favourite songs of all time. Instead of the classic triple play we gave Lola free reign over what would be played, and I was actually surprised at what she picked. After watching her on X Factor I honestly thought she’d pick a load of ballads, but instead there were quite a few dance tracks, something she told us is what she’d like to record in the future. Don’t forget that Sam Smith started off collaborating with Disclosure and look at him now. Good Luck Lola!!

Tune in tomorrow when Katie Bulmer Cooke from The Apprentice will be picking her favourite tunes. I’m guessing there’ll be a lot of songs on her list that she exercises to.

2 weeks today and it will be CHRISTMAS DAY!

11th December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

Even though I’ve been feeling festive for a while now, it was ramped up another level this morning when I realised that 2 weeks today will be Christmas Day!!!! I’m so ridiculously excited. This time in 2 weeks, I’ll be relaxing in my pj’s in front of the TV, my mam will be in the kitchen making bacon butties and my dad will be clearing away the wrapping paper and complaining that whatever I’ve bought him is either too big or too good times.

Simon was even in the Christmas spirit this morning and surprised me by giving me an early Christmas present which I thought was a bit odd. Turns out I was right to be weary as they had a Best Before date of Sept 2014!!! Good job I only had 1 and didn’t devour the entire box as he probably thought I would.

Showbiz news today and I was sorry to announce that fellow Farringdon Academy pupil Katie Bulmer Cooke was fired by Lord Sugar on The Apprentice last night. I was watching it thinking, “Nope it’s not going to happen, Alan what are you doing?!” We’re all very proud of how far you got in the competition Katie and you’ve done yourself and Wearside proud as well.

And how was your weekend?

8th December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

If you tuned in this morning and thought Simon didn’t sound his usual self that’s because it wasn’t Simon! The cheeky chappy thought he’d have today off to get over his weekend shenanigans. Basically that meant he was too excited after seeing Michael Buble in concert that he needed some time to calm down! Thankfully I wasn’t left on my own and was joined by resident fill in boy Mike Nicholson who is always a joy to work with.

I should’ve been the one to have a holiday today seeing as I was out running in the freezing cold yesterday for charity. I took part in Sunderland’s very first Chocolate Santa Run in Mowbray Park and I honestly thought my hands were going to fall off it was that cold! I was intrigued to know how chocolate would fit into the race, and found out 3 minutes in; at certain points along the course there were ‘Chocolate Stations’ where you had to sing a Christmas Carol and you were given treats. The only problem was, I didn’t have a bag or any pockets so had to store the chocolate down my could’ve ended in a melted mess but thankfully it stayed intact. Everyone who took part was given a Santa suit to wear for the race, “One Size Fits All”........really?! I looked like a small child wearing grown up clothes, so basically I looked a right fool. I must admit the run was really good and even though it was only a mile and a half I was knackered!!! Looks like I’ll have to start my training now for next year’s 10k in May.

What’s in Danni’s mouth has returned for another week and Simon will be back tomorrow, no doubt full of stories about his Buble experience.

Buble, Running, Wrapping and Work

5th December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s Friday!!!!! That means only one’s time to party! Friday is always the most relaxed day of the week at work. Even though everyone’s still got the same amount of work to do as usual, there’s always something in the air that makes everyone happier. Simon was very happy today as his weekend consists of seeing Michael Buble in concert which he’s been looking forward to since he bought the tickets. He is a HUGE fan and tries to use the excuse that it was his girlfriend who really wanted to go so he bought the tickets for her, which is a massive lie, he just didn’t want to go to a Michael Buble concert on his own and look like a weirdo. I wonder if he’s finished making his banner???

Safe to say, Simon’s one word to describe his weekend was ‘BUBLE’. Mine on the other hand is ‘RUNNING’. That’s right, I’m dusting off my trainers and taking part in the Chocolate Santa Run this Sunday in Mowbray Park. It sounds loads of fun; not only do you get given a Santa suit to wear throughout the race, but there are chocolate challenges and treats along the way. It’s only 1.5 miles and I’m raising money for the NSPCC Sunderland so I’m really looking forward to it! Loads of you on Facebook got in touch to tell us your one word weekends which range from work, decorating, reunion and panto.

It’s been a very busy morning considering we’ve gave away cinema tickets, tanks of fuel, wrapping paper (that’s right someone won some wrapping paper), and a pair of season cards that will be making their way to Scott from Downhill who successfully managed to answer all 6 footy questions correctly.

Whatever your weekend plans are, I hope you have a festive fantastic time.

It's a Cracker!

2nd December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

It’s the 2nd December and I’ve finally started on my Christmas shopping. Last night I managed to get quite a lot in even though I looked like a pack horse carrying it all round the town. Not wanting to blow my own trumpet but I buy the best presents and I’ll definitely be given the Favourite Auntie title on Christmas day when my niece, nephew and goddaughter see what I’ve bought them. I even managed to buy my Christmas tree although I was too tired to put it up when I got home so that’s on my ‘To Do’ list for today.

Day 2 of 'What’s In Danni’s Mouth?' and Stevie from Southwick was over the moon to win a cracker. It might sound like a strange prize but it’s nothing compared to what some of our listeners have won in the past. A few of you got in touch to tell us the strangest prize you’ve ever won. Catherine once won a Cabbage thanks to Sun FM and Mandi once won a year’s supply of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, I just hope she wasn’t allergic to nuts.

And finally in the showbiz news, Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Frozen has announced that a sequel is in the works, although it hasn’t been confirmed by Disney. Simon then went and played his favourite song from the film......’Let One Go’.....that’s right, not ‘Let It Go’, but ‘Let One Go’. I wonder if you can guess what it was about. It doesn’t matter how old you are but the sound of flatulence is always funny.

24 sleeps to go.....

1st December 2014

Simon Grundy in the morning

Here’s what you missed........

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW STAR WARS TRAILER????? Oh my god oh my god. I was so excited that I even tweeted the official Star Wars account on Friday to thank them for kick-starting my weekend. I don’t care what people think about it but I thought it was amazing and when the music kicked in I actually got goosebumps!!

But that was Friday, today is the start of a whole new week and it’s also the start of a whole new month!! I can’t believe it’s December already. That means that it is now socially acceptable to wear Christmas Jumpers, sing Christmas songs, watch Christmas films and put up Christmas decorations, without being judged or mocked. With this in mind we started playing Christmas songs and wanted you to tell us what the first one should be. It’s good to see that The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl ‘Fairytale of New York’ is still high on people’s favourite festive list, although the winner ended up being Shakin’ Stevens.

As it is the 1st that means there’s only 24 sleeps until Santa makes an prepare yourselves for our Sleeps till Santa jingle that we will be playing every morning until Christmas Day. It’s the type of jingle that kids absolutely love and adults absolutely loath, so enjoy!
