Yet again, I didn’t get much sleep last night. I don’t know why but for the past week I’ve ended up lying in bed for about 2 hours trying to force myself to get to sleep but all I end up doing is talking to myself! Simon had a rubbish night’s sleep as well, although that was because someone decided to phone him at 3am.......I’m just pleased my number’s blocked so he couldn’t press redial! A lot of you on Facebook suggested Lavender could help and that I shouldn’t use my phone or watch the TV in bed. I looked online to see if there were any other ways that would help, and stumbled upon some research that lists ways in which you can actually trick yourself into falling asleep. I was a little bit unsure as to how ‘helpful’ this could be because the first tip was to “Inhale through your left nostril”. I think I might actually try a couple of them though; a few of them are yoga based tips so technically they should relax your body. Tonight I’ll be trying out “Hum to Yourself”, tip number 7: “Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes, drop your shoulders, relax your jaw but keep your mouth gently closed. Breathe in through your nose as deeply as is comfortable, ensuring your abdomen, not chest, rises. Breather gently out of your mouth, lips together so you hum. Try to hum for the whole out-breath. Notice how it vibrates in your chest. Focus fully on the vibration over six breaths then sit quietly for a moment. Tell yourself ‘I am ready for sleep’, get up slowly and go to bed” It sounds simple enough. I’ll let you know if it works?! Tonight I will be starting one of my New Year’s resolutions........exercise!! For someone like me it’s a big deal. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not do exercise, in fact I despise it, but this holiday weight I’ve somehow piled on will not shift itself. Fingers crossed I don’t pass out. I just hope I don’t end up walking like John Wayne in the morning!! Wish me luck. Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for your last chance to win tickets to Singing in the Rain at the Empire next week. I’ve got a little treat in store for you, Simon doesn’t even know what it is, no doubt he’ll be over the moon with what I’ve got planned for him!!!
