Pennywell car crash Portsmouth Road

9:13am 13th September 2017
(Updated 11:47am 13th September 2017)

A driver was rushed to hospital after a car crashed in Pennywell during rush hour.

The North East Ambulance Service and Police were on the scene following the collision.

A Vauxhall car ended up on its roof on Portsmouth Road just before 7:50 this morning, following a collision with a BMW.

The driver of the Vauxhall was treated by medics at the scene and later transferred to Sunderland Royal Hospital for a check up.

The incident caused traffic queues in the area, but congestion was clear and the traffic was moving freely by about 8:30.

It's not believed either driver was seriously injured.
