A unique insight into the hour after a North East murder investigation begins was shown on TV last night.

As part of ITV's Crime & Punishment season Northumbria Police were fitted with body cameras as they searched for a killer.

'An Hour to Catch a Killer with Trevor McDonald' showed how detectives brought the murderer of Alice Ruggles in Gateshead to charges.

Northumbria Police say their thoughts are still very much with Alice's family, who've done some incredible work in setting up the Alice Ruggles Trust.

24 year old Alice was discovered by her friend with her throat cut in her flat on Rawlings Road.

Her ex-boyfriend Lance Corporal Trimaan Dhillon was convicted of her murder at Newcastle Crown Court.
