Gemma Lowery has helped put the finishing touches to an award which will be handed to Jermain Defoe.

He'll receive the North East Personality of the Year trophy, after the player’s relationship with Gemma's son Bradley caught the hearts of the nation.

She was at the Glass Centre in Sunderland today, along with Colin Young, who is the secretary of the North East Football Writers' Association.

Also on behalf of the Bobby Robson Foundation, who chose Defoe as this year's winner, Lady Elsie Robson watched on as the award was created on Wearside.
