Sunderland Royal has confirmed that non-urgent appointments and procedures will not take place today.

It's due to the recent weather conditions.

The hospital is to contact affected patients as soon as possible to rearrange.

City Hospitals Sunderland tweet March 1st 2018

A spokesperson has released the following statement yesterday:

"Due to the weather some non-urgent operations and appointments will not go ahead tomorrow.

"Patients affected are all being contacted to reschedule.

"Also just a shout out to our staff who have been amazing today. We had some staff from the night shift work extra hours until their colleagues were ‎able to get in.

"We have had staff come in and help who weren't even on shift, our estates team have been working throughout the night to clear car parks and paths, we have some 4x4s on standby to collect staff who cannot travel to work and we have made beds available in the hospital for staff who would otherwise struggle to get home.

"Everyone is making sure that there is minimal disruption to patient care and we are able to treat those who need it most."
