Flood alert in place for the Wearside coastline

High waves

8:17am 2nd March 2018

A flood alert has been issued by the Environment agency for the third day on Wearside.

It's in force along the coastline, with strong waves and over topping predicted for Roker, Seaburn and Seaham.

High tides will possible flooding from 3pm until 5:30 this evening.

Properties including Grannie Annie's Pub and the Amusement Arcades are being urged to take the appropriate action.

Wave over topping is likely at these times, although conditions may apply two to four hours either side of high tide.

Flooding is possible between these times, with moderate spring tides combined with strong onshore winds are causing large waves and spray, so please take care near coastal paths and promenades.

This may cause localised standing water on roads.

Do not drive through flood water or large waves.

The agency will continue to monitor the conditions.
