Snow makes way for heavy rain
The snow may have thawed on Wearside, but it has given way to a downpour of rain.
Drivers are being urged to take extra care with surface water a danger on the roads making conditions hazardous.
A flood alert's also been issued during this morning's high tides until just after 8 this morning. (Tuesday)
Major roads on Wearside affected by the recent spell of severe weather are being assessed to re-open this morning.
The A690 at Houghton cut has been closed since Friday last week, and could re-open fully to traffic later.
Meanwhile the A1018 at Grangetown which has been closed off to traffic heading towards Seaham and Ryhope is open this morning after lighting columns were damaged.
Sunderland City Council have tweeted an update.
Foxcover Lane, East Herrington is impassable due to flooding and drivers are being advised to please avoid the area as the wet conditions make travel hazardous.
