Queen's ex-guardmen admits to nearly shooting her

One of the Queen's ex-guardsmen has admitted to nearly shooting her in error.

The unnamed soldier confessed that he thought she may have been an intruder.

It happened when Her Majesty took a walk during a night when she was unable to sleep.

According to The Times diary column she said it was "quite all right" - and she'd call ahead in future "so you don't have to shoot me."
